South Coyote Canyon is a beautiful trail located in Anza Borrego Desert State Park, CA and is one of the best trail for someone new to Jeeps and off-roading to learn on. It's relatively close to Los Angeles and San Diego and offers terrain that is technical enough make it a good challenge for a stock JK but nothing too difficult. This short video highlights the first annual Project-JK.com newbie run that we did back in October 2007. In all, we had a total of 14 Jeep JK Wrangler along for the ride including JK Rubicons, JK X and JK Sahara's in both 2-door and 4-door Unlimited models and in various degress of lift heights and tire sizes including bone stock. As is the case with most of our runs, this was an optional overnight trip and we set up camp towards then end of the trail at Sheep Camp. And, if you've ever been camping with us, you know that's where all the real fun happens! Unfortunately, on the way out, one of our members, Trail Bud, suffered an unusual break to his front axle housing but thanks to a good ratchet strap and toad's AAA premium membership, all was good in the end.

The Slickrock Jeep Trail is located about two hours south of South Lake Tahoe, just off the 4 HWY and near to Bear Valley in the Stanislaus National Forest. Starting up on west shore of the picturesque Lake Alpine, the Slickrock Trail parallels the cascading clear waters of Silver Creek and makes its way over huge slabs of granite, through impressive sloped granite walled canyons, down steep granite Moab style descents, across a cool stream, up over a challenging rocky climb and then finally coming to an end at the beautiful Utica Reservoir. And, while this trail is only 5.2 miles long and can be done in about 3 hours, you should be prepared for it to take the better part of a day to complete as there is just so much to see and do along the way. On our trip, we were fortunate enough to be treated to brilliant displays of wildflowers, equally colorful butterflies, several deer staring at us from the woods, a fast swiming water snake in the creek and of course, stunning views across the Stanislaus National Forest and Carson Iceberg Wilderness. But, having said all that, I think the absolute best part of this trail was being able to playing in the myriad of pools that Silver Creek has uniquely sculpted and carved out of the pink granite it flows over near the end of the trail. For this run, we hooked up with the JK-Forum.com NorCal Crew including Liz (DizzyLiz) and Sean in their Black Rubicon Unlimited sitting on an RE 3.5″ Super Flex Lift and 35″ BFG MTs, Matt (brknmach) and his dad with their Steel Blue Rubicon RE 4.5″ Long Arm Lift and 36″ Iroks, Chip (kidjeep) and his daughter with their Silver Sahara Unlimited sitting on a TeraFlex 2.5″ BB, 1″ BL and 35″ Toyo MTs, Stacy (R8R ROK) and his family with their Silver Sahara Unlimited sitting on a TeraFlex 2.5″ BB and 32″ BFG MTs, David (MBATF) and his mom with their Black Rubicon Unlimited sitting on a Clayton 3.5″ Lift and 37″ BFG KM2s, Zip (PeeJ_Zip) and his wife with their Black X sitting on a Rusty's 3.25″ Lift and 35″ Baja MTZs, Mark (rampage) and his kids with their Jeep Green Rubicon Unlimited sitting on a Full Traction 3″ Ultimate Lift and 35″ ProComp Xtreme MTs and of course, Cindy (WOLette) and I in our Stone White Rubicon Unlimited sitting on a TeraFlex 4″ Flex Arm Lift, 1″ More BL and 37″ Toyo MTs.

Last weekend, Cindy and I finally got a chance to hook up with some of the great people up
Last weekend, Cindy and I finally got a chance to hook up with some of the great people up here in Northern California and do an official Project-JK.com run with them. Specifically, we did a run up the Signal Peak Jeep Trail which is located southwest of Truckee and north east of Auburn, right off the I-80. In fact, for those of you who are familiar with the Fordyce Jeep Trail, Signal Peak is right next to it and actually shares the same staging area. Unfortunately, this trail run was kind of a last minute event that our good friend Liz (DizzyLiz) helped put together over on the NorCal sub-forum of JK-Forum.com but in spite of that, we still were able to get a total 4 Jeep JK Wranglers (all of which were 4-door Unlimiteds) together for the run. In addition to our Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited which is currently running a TeraFlex 4" Flex Arm kit and sitting on 37" Toyo M/T's, we also had Liz in her black 3.5" Rubicon Express lifted Rubicon Unlimited sitting on 35" BFG M/T's, Chip (kidjeep) in his silver 2.5" TeraFlex Budget Boost lifted Sahara Unlimited sitting on 35" Toyo M/T's and David (MBATF) in his 3.5" Clayton lifted Rubicon Unlimited sitting on 37" BFG MT KM2's. This was the first time that I've run the Signal Peak Jeep Trail and can tell you that it was a lot of fun. It's a short trail and the first half has you climbing up a steep and narrow road with a lot of loose boulders and that is most likely why it gets a "difficult" rating. While I don't think it would be wise for any 4WD SUV to do this trail, I do feel that a stock JK Rubicon could do it with ease as well as an X or Sahara with more aggressive tires. Further up the trail, the brush got a lot thicker and all our Jeeps were given a nice custom pin striping job but as we closed in on the top, things open up and we were treated with beautiful open meadows filled with wildflowers. Once at the top, we took a break for lunch and made the short hike out to the abandoned stone fire lookout structure and to see the expansive views beyond. Unfortunately, thanks to all the wildfires in the area, not a whole lot could be seen. From there, it was all downhill and easy going. Once again, I'd like to give special thanks to Liz for helping to put this run up the Signal Peak Trail together as well as everyone else who came to join us.

So I was watching my favorite TV personality, Todd Offenbacher (a real hoot to watch), on the local Tahoe RSN channel when I saw a piece he did featuring a local wheeling spot that was right here in the South Lake Tahoe basin. Apparently, this area was called Twin Peaks and was just minutes away from the Y (where highway 50 and 89 split off) and if you can believe it, in all the years that I have been coming to Lake Tahoe, I can honestly say that I had never heard of this place. In fact, none of the books or maps I had indicated anything about this trail or OHV area but after doing some research online and locating the actual Twin Peaks mountains on a map, I decided to take some time off of my busy work week and find this place. As it would turn out, Twin Peaks is literally in town and down by a youth fishing area called Saw Mill Pond. Towards the end of the parking lot, you will find a gate which will tell you that the trail ahead is Twin Peaks and that it's only open from 9am - 7pm. Not too far beyond the gate, you will come up to a split in the trail. To get to the top without any problems, stay to the left and if you want to play on some pretty tough rocks, stay to the right. This first play area is called "Twister" and is a challenge. Up beyond that and near the peak, you will find a second rock garden with a bypass to the right called "Washboard" (most likely because of the railroad ties you have you drive over). This second rock garden is just as challenging as the first and towards the top, it gets extreme. If you're bold enough to give the extreme part a try, there is an axle that's been sunk into a large boulder towards to top that you can winch off of if needed. The top of the peak is just a 100 yards up beyond that and offers stunning views of the Tahoe basin and mountains beyond. All in all, it's more of a small play area than a trail but challenging enough to offer hardcore Jeepers some fun. Of course, being minutes away from home makes this place a perfect place to test out your rig and or to hone in your abilities. Anyway, here is a short video that Cindy made of our Twin Peaks excursion and hope you enjoy it.

This Project-JK Moab Easter Jeep Safari 2008 YouTube video is of a run that we did up the elephant hill trail. along for the ride was toad and Bullfrog in their Rescue Green 2.5" TeraFlex budget boosted Jeep JK Wrangler X, Wayne, his wife Kathy and son Aaron in their Silver 4" Full Traction Ultimate Lifted Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited sitting on 37" MTR's and Brian (Bracket) and his wife Lauren in their Red Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon sitting on top of a huge 6" Skyjacker long arm lift and 37" BFG Krawlers and us in our JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited sitting on a Full Traction 4" Ultimate Lift, 37" Toyo MT's, Walker Evans Beadlocks, PUREJEEP front and rear bumpers and rocker guards, Superior 5.13 gears and AlloyUSA front Chromoly shafts. Elephant Hill is by far one of the most beautiful trails (if not the most beautiful) in the Moab area that I have been on. located south of Moab in Canyonlands, you will have to pay a small entrance fee to get in but it's worth every penny. the trail itself isn't very difficult but there are a few sections along the way that have big enough rocks and ledges to negotiate that might give a stock Jeep some trouble and is why it gets a most difficult rating. If you do this trail, make sure to do the 1/2 mile hike up to the Confluence Overlook as the view is simply outstanding. Hope you enjoy the video!

The Rock is an annual off-roading event that Superior Axle & Gear and Full Traction Suspension put on at Area BFE during Moab Easter Jeep Safari and is it ever a ton of fun. This was my 3rd time attending this event and 2nd time as Project-JK.com in our 2007 Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. However, this time around, we came sitting on a Full Traction 4" Ultimate Lift, 1" M.O.R.E. body lift, 37x13.50 Toyo M/T's mounted on Walker Evans beadlocks and armored up with PUREJEEP bumpers and rocker guards. Along for the ride was Jen (toad) and Jeff (bullfrog) in the 2-door X sitting on a TeraFlex 2.5" budget boost and 35" Toyo M/T's, Jason (SDMF) in his 2-door Rubicon sitting on a Currie Rock Jock JK suspension system, 35" Cooper SST's, Shrockworks Mid-Width front bumper and LoD Rear Bumper and Wayne, Kat and Aaron in their JK Rubicon Unlimited sitting on top of a Full Traction 4" Ultimate Lift, 37" Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's, AEV beadlocks, front bumper and corner guards and Rock Hard rear bumper, rocker guards and sport cage. The trail we ran at this year's. the Rock V, was Greenday and with the exception of one TJ taking a dump, we all came out damage free. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video from our day in Area BFE.

This Project-JK Moab Easter Jeep Safari 2008 YouTube video is of a sunset run that we did up the Kane Creek Trail. Along for the ride was SDMF in his Black Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon sitting on a Currie Rock Jock suspension system and 35" Cooper SST's, toad and Bullfrog in their Rescue Green 2.5" TeraFlex budget boosted Jeep JK Wrangler X, Wayne, his wife Kathy and son Aaron in their Silver 4" Full Traction Ultimate Lifted Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited sitting on 37" MTR's and Brian (Bracket) and his wife Lauren in their Red Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon sitting on top of a huge 6" Skyjacker long arm lift and 37" BFG Krawlers. Kane Creek is for the most part an easy and extremely beautiful trail located just outside the town of Moab but there are times when the creek, which you have to cross numerous times, can be deep enough to be impassable. And, there are also a few rocky ledges situated on a high shelf road towards the end of the trail that'll provide some fun for a modified JK but might be quite difficult for a stock Jeep to negotiate if not make it impossible without some assistance. And, perhaps these are the reasons why the trail gets a 'difficult' rating. Hope you enjoy the video!

As luck would have it, our first morning in Moab was met with freezing cold temperatures and steady snow still falling from the storm that followed us in the day before. And, while there was a bit of a break in the weather as we headed into town for some breakfast, the forecast still called for more snow later in the day and so we decided to do our first official Project-JK Easter Jeep Safari 2008 run up Steel Bender with both the top and doors on. Unfortunately for us, Jen (toad) and Jeff (Bullfrog) had other obligations they needed to attend to that day so the only people that would be going on this run would be Jason (SDMF), Cindy (WOLette) and I.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Steel Bender, it is a beautiful trail that takes you through impressive canyons, multiple water crossings, up over ledge after ledge (most can be bypassed) and across plateaus with outstanding views. However, I should note that there is one steep ledge that you will have to slide down (there is no bypass) and it will deliver a good pucker factor as there is a big ass drop-off to the right that just so happens to have a landing that's bit off camber in that direction.
Anyway, we hope you enjoy this video.
In the event you are interested, Jason is driving a black 2007 Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon 2-door with a Currie Rock Jock Suspension System, 35" Cooper SST's, LoD Rear Bumper Tire Carrier, Shrockworks Mid-Width Front Bumper, WARN M8000 winch and Rock Hard 4x4 Parts Sports Cage. Cindy and I have a white Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited 4-door sitting on top of a Full Traction 4" Ultimate Lift, 37" Toyo MT's on Walker Evans Beadlocks, PUREJEEP front bumper/rear bumper tire carrier/rocker guards/CAI and outfitted with a WARN PowerPlant.

This is a quick Project-JK video (the first in a series of videos that will be coming soon) that WOLette put together to document our long drive up to Moab, Utah to attend the 2008 Easter Jeep Safari. Joining us in our caravan was Toad, Bullfrog and SDMF, all of which are from the JK-Forum SoCal group. Although there isn't any wheeling in this video, we did get a chance to engage 4WD HI as we encountered a considerable amount of snow along the way ;) and I think you'll enjoy it for what it is. Be sure to check back soon for trail run videos.

This 10 minute video highlights the Project-JK "5-Scream" trail run we did up Odessa Canyon which is located in the Calico Ghost Town area in the Mojave Desert. This trail requires a lot of low range work to crawl and climb up large boulders and dry falls with plenty of opportunities to take on harder lines of which we did every chance we got. And, likewise, we got plenty of opportunities to put our winches to the test and our tow straps to good use. Along for the ride was Toad in her 2-door Jeep JK Wrangler X sitting on a Pro Comp 2" Budget Boost and 32" BFG M/T's, SDMF in his 2-Door JK Rubicon sitting on top of a new Currie Enterprises Rock Jock JK Suspension System and 35" Cooper SST's, JeepCacher in his JK Unlimited X sitting on top of a TeraFlex 2.5" Budget Boost and 33" BFG A/T's, Trail Bud in his JK Unlimited Rubicon sitting on top of a Full Traction 3" Ultimate Lift and 33" BFG M/T's and us (wayoflife & WOLette) in our JK Unlimited Rubicon sitting on top of a Full Traction 3" Ultimate Lift and 35" Pro Comp Xtreme M/T's.

For our final day at the 2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, we decided to head out to the prooving grounds and take a spin on Off Road Evolution's bad ass Full Traction Suspension long arm lifted and highly modified Jeep JK Wrangler Sahara. Let me tell you, this thing was sitting on Pro Rocks, Superior Chromoly Axles, Superior 5.13 Gears, 35 Spline Dana 44 Rear, OX U-Joints, 40" Toyo M/T's, Ultra 20" Wheels, Allied Bead Locks, Staun Internal Beadlocks, 12" Coilover, Air Bumps, JE Reel Drive Shafts, had MasterCraft Seats front and rear inside and was covered with a Wild Boar Fast Back Hard Top and Xenon Fender Flares. Let me tell you, this thing had a ridiculous amount of crazy flex, was a blast to ride in and a hell of a lot of fun to watch. But, you don't need to take my word for it.
