You mean when your just starting to drive on the sand or after you've been driving in sand?

lower your air pressure and use low gear.

Sounds like you were in 4hi, If you are staying in 4 hi, push the ESP off button, sounds like your traction control is kicking in you need to turn traction control off. I have experienced the same feeling in certain snow conditions also.

disable the esp in the sand !!!

As others have said; in the sand you should air down to at least 18 psi, be in 4Hi and turn off ESP. Remember in a Jk ESP will re-engage everytime you turn the motor off. I almost found out that little detail the hard way.

esp was off first thing i do before going off road it was just weird like it felt like it was getting no power and just the whole thing was shaking i thought i broke something at first but nothing is broken. i didnt let air out of my tires thought so i will try that next time

The loss of power and shaking feeling is due to the ESP engaging in an attempt to limit wheel spin and regain tracking. That is a good thing if you are on a wet road but a bad thing if you are on sand. In soft sand in particular, some wheel spin is inevitable but also necessary to maintain momentum when wheeling in the sand.

have you held the ESP button for 5 seconds to turn it off completely? only reason for shaking can be the following:

tires at full pressure

going over ripples in the sand,

ESP not fully disengaged and pulling back the power

no it was not fully off, and tires were at full pressure so i next time i am out i will try it with lower pressure and esp fully off thanks guy

Do you engage lockers in the sand?

You may as well engage the rear locker. The front one makes the steering so funky I wouldn't bother with it. Unless you have the ability to override the 4lo requirement for the lockers you may find 4-lo too restrictive for your speed requirements. The best thing to do is see what puts the least load on your engine. If you are rolling on the sand in lieu of digging while you roll, it will show up on the tach. It's fun to spin the tires and throw some sand, but stock jeeps don't have alot of HP left to burn.

i drive my 2dr out on the beach quite often and sometimes feel that shaking too. however its not my rig, its the sand im driving on. wen panzies constantly stop on sand it makes all sorts of little bumps that are close to each other and makes ur ride feel like its vibrating. if it was ur jeep id want to know why it doesnt happen on pavement too.

i go wheeling at silver lake sand dunes and they have some pretty sweet hills to climb. Heres what i do, first do the steering wheel manuver to get your esp completely shut off. If you just push and hold the button for 5 seconds it is only partiially shut off as it will re engage the esp when you hit 35 or 40 mph(forgot what speed) and yes i hit those speeds while climbing hills especially with wheel spin. IMO 4HI is much better than 4lo. You just have to keep the rpms high in first gear if you are going to climb something. Also IMO 18 psi is way to much air for sand, or atleast for climbing in sand. its to much. I run 10-12 and have NEVER had problems. Wouldnt advise doing to many donuts with that low of air as that could break the bead. Also i wheel in a ohv park so help is always near by. The first two days at the sand dunes i hated my jk, thought i had a 35K paperweight. Of all the things i listed i think less air was by far the best improvement.
