My antenna mount is on my plate...(Ignore the second hole... it was a test hole, lol.)

Cant really tell from the pic, but the mount looks like a Cool Tec mount.
I just installed one on mine and they included a ground strap that went from the bracket mounting bolt, out thru the bottom of the tail light housing, to one of the bumper mounting bolts.
Hope this helps.

It's not the Cool Tec mount, it was a modified mount I picked up at a truck stop... then screwed it on the inside of the plate frame. I accidentally put it on backwards, creating the afore mentioned test hole.
I'm thinking the ground is on a good spot, touching metal at least. I can hear truckers occationally, so I'm fairly certain I got it installed correctly. Tested with the SWR meter and got 2 on both 1 and 40, that's as good as I could get it.
I even bought a more expensive antenna with a tunable tip, but could never get it under 2 no matter what I did.

Yup, the ground location looks ok....but what size wire is that? It needs to more substantial, I believe.

If Im not mistaken, the CoolTec kit includes a 12 ga ground wire that goes from the mount to a bolt that attatches the bumper to the frame.
You may have to increase the ground wire size and see if it helps

Good location just go a little thicker. I would/did when I ran a ground.
