Bad Alternator?
So last night I am driving up a hill and once I got to the top the electrical system went crazy. It was night and I saw the stero flash a couple times and the engine died. I was going less then 20mph. At that point I put it in park and restarted the engine without any problems. I had to reset the clock and now I am getting a change oil alarm even though it has only been about a month since my last change. The only thing I have to compare this with is when an alternator went bad years ago but that car had 120K+ miles, my Jeep is just over 18K. I plan to take in to the dealer early next but but I would like to hear thoughts.
I doubt it's a bad alternator. If you have a volt or multi meter, check the battery statically. The battery should read about 12.65VDC. Then start the engine and read the battery, it should be reading about 14.5VDC. If it's not reading that voltage with the engine running there may be a problem.
I've heard of no problems with the alternators in the Jk as of yet.
