Thule 300 Gutter Foot Pack
58" Load Bars.
Wind noise not really an issue, but I'll prob pick up a fairing w/in a week or so.
Just fits in the garage. I have about 1 to 1 3/4 inches to spare max!

Awsome! I have been shopping for a rack and didn't think I could put a roof rack like that on the JK. I will probably get a spare tire mount for Mtn Bikes and a roof rack lilke that for skis.
Good luck with snow this year!
Just noticed you are in ABQ - Where did you pick up the rack?

Thanks!
If you're going w/ a spare tire mount, check this out....
Spare Me: http://thuleracks.com/thule/product.asp?dept_id=8&sku=963
then add this...
Hitch Ski: http://thuleracks.com/thule/product.asp?dept_id=9&sku=987xt
You'd be covered w/ the bikes & the summer, and the skis/boards in the winter. The Hitch Ski also attaches to most of the hitch mounted carriers.
The only issue w/ the hitch mounted carriers is the spare tire & rear gate. Even with the fold-a-way models the tire will not clear the carrier.
Either way, good luck!

Yeah -- I was wondering if the hitch mount would actually work with the spare tire and all even though the Thule site kind-of says so.
I was considering the roof rack option also because I could transfer it to our Commander if we want. I will never take that one biking, but if I did and I had the roof mount I could just add a couple of tire trays and hubstands ( or whatever their called ).
Did you go through REI or straight through Thule?

Actually, I picked up the Gutter Foot Pack at Sports Authority. They have them marked down to $99, from $129. Sweet deal. They have the load bars at regular price. ($52) I picked my bars up from REI for the member benifits.

Wow that's a nice JK. Even though it's basically stock the dirt/mud on the wheels makes it look soooooo good. :yup:
How about sending us some action pics.:D

Thanks for the comment! I wanted a lift, but now w/ the rack on there a lift would not let me in the garage. I'll prob spend my next cash on a new board & bindings. In the spring, I'll grab the Mopar Nav thing on the dash and some mirror relo brkts.
Here's a link to some action shots. I'm always wheel'n by my self, so I never get shots of the good stuff.....and believe me... I've pushed her to the stock limits. ;)

How exactly is the rack attached to the Freedom top? Do you still have to screww into the top like the old tops or do they have a new system?
Thanks

It clamps on to the gutter.

As you suggest, that is exactly what I am getting now. I found someone locally selling the hitch-ski new and still in the box for $40. He bought it for his jeep two years ago and sold his jeep without ever using the rack! I am getting the spare-me for Christmas.
By the way - Did you have your Jeep up in Los Alamos in Mid November? They day after I got mine I saw a white one in town in a hotel parking lot. I haven't seen another one here since.

Sweet. You'll have to post pics after xmas.
Never had my Jeep North of ABQ. I'd like to get up there as I here there's a trail near Los Alamos.
Maybe we should have a mini JK meet somewhere in NM.

No veh specific clips for this application. The Gutter FP 300 are universal.

Yeah, definitely. Looks like you know some good trails down in ABQ judging by your pictures.

Update: After driving at higher speeds, I encounterd some whistling. After moving the front bars forward and back, I ended up adding a fairing. No more whistling.

Thanks for the replies!
I'll get an updated pic w/ the fairing soon. Work has been crazy. ABQ received 10 inches of snow. Not as bad as Denver, but people here have not seen this much snow in a loooong time. I work in the auto insurance claims business, so not much time to take pics and such.
As for the weight limit, I'm not positive. I don't really plan on more than 4 snowboards. Thule does not recommend it b/c Jeep says the freedom top is not structural...blah...blah...blah. If you're planning on hauling some serious weight, I'd wait on a safari rack.
Hope that helps!

caution on hitch mounted bike carriers: I have a Yakima hitch mounted bike carrier that does not fit because the spare tire sticks out too far and the carrier doesn't align in the hitch...be warned!!!

Here's one w/ the fairing. Apologies for taking so long....
If you want some additional angles, I promise to be quicker.
Edit: actually I'm going out of town w/o the JK :( I'll be back on 1/2/07

buy a hitch extension. they come in varying lengths. Just be aware it lowers your overhaul hitch load rating.

Does anyone have a Yakima rack on a JK yet? Also, is anyone selling any racks, I am in the market for snowboard racks for the JK.

I have a Yakima rack, the generic rain gutter feet will work. I had to remove some rubber shims to get them to fit -- I'm not sure if this is by design, since I got the rack from someone on craigslist.
Here's a pic on flickr (there are a couple of other angles on there as well):

I just put mine for sale HERE (http://jk-forum.com/showthread.php?p=26146#post26146) because it does not work with my new wheels and tires.

Thanks for the info. :toung: I'll have to check out the unlimited rain gutters more carefully and swap out the old ford explorer feet on the Thule rack for the even older saab turbo gutter mounts. It's better than drilling into the new freedom top and mounting artificial rain gutters. I already have all the parts.

Thanks :toung: for the suggestion on the Thule old school standard gutter feet with the umlimited freedom top, I tried it out today and it works great, there are alot more mounting options than available on my TJ because of the extra lenght and width!!! Sweet, no need to drill and use artificial gutters. I did have to remove the protective rubber booties inside the std gutter mounts to get it to fit, similar to the guy with the Yakima setup...
Ciao!

Looks nice. I was thinking the oppisite: going w/ the skinny cargo carrier and the 4 board/6 ski carrier.

The carrier is rather large and the ski/snowboard rack is small. But it's all from stuff I already had and did not need to purchase, so I am very happy to be able to reuse everything on the new JK. There are lot's of options due to the increased width and length of the unlimited freedom top.....
From Thule's website feet recommended for the 2007 Unlimited:
OPTION 1 | ROOF MOUNT SYSTEM BASE PRODUCT
300 Gutter Foot Pack | LB58 Load Bar
$190 for the bars and feet.....
