I like to take pictures when I hike, I am not the most skilled photog, but I still enjoy it. So, here's the scoop, I have a Nikon D40x, and 2 lenses.
I take a ton of sunset pics from my window in the evenings, and for here in CT, they are pretty nice I must say...

Are just a couple of my favs... I also take some pics when at the summit of the peaks I hike. This is kinda new, so bear with me but here are a couple of nice views...

Nikon makes a great camera. I have the D80 digital camera and the N80 film camera - the lenses are interchagable. I will have to resize some of my pics before I post - they are huge (8 meg). Dont have the time tonight.

i don't think "Z-Man" ment to start a camera war, or a "my lense is bigger then yours"... and in that regard...
Those are som nice pictures you've taken, I am still using a 3mp, but i've got some nice shots:

My problem is, i am also still using a 35mm film camera and most of my vacation pictures are done on that instead of digital. I have dozens of shoe boxes filled with photos i wish i could digitiz.
So who else has some awsome pictures to share?

for the win. i've got the EOS 3 35mm, and just picked up the digital rebel XTi. i don't have a whole lot of pics hosted yet, i'll burn a CD tonight and see if i can't get some up tomorrow.
I picked a couple random shots from my website http://www.shonreed.com The pages will take 15 seconds or so to load but after that it should run very quickly to view the images.

This is a cool pic I took at the top of Mt. Adams in NH. We had just finished raising the American Flag in memory of 9/11 (www . flagsonthe48 . org) Timing was lucky cause the clouds cleared out for only a few seconds...but it was my first time being eye level with clouds like that.. It was sick...

How in the world have I missed this thread? There are some great pictures in it!
I hike to take pic's, and I got the JK to get me to trailheads so that I could hike to take
pic's. I love shooting wilderness settings and Scouting activities. My son and I spend the
summers traveling to visit all of the U.S. national parks, and have been to 39 of the 58.
Here are a few samples of my work:

After hiking four miles from the Yosemite Valley floor 3000 feet below, you'll see this
great view of Half Dome and Glacier Point, CA:

i don't think "Z-Man" ment to start a camera war, or a "my lense is bigger then yours"... and in that regard...
Those are som nice pictures you've taken, I am still using a 3mp, but i've got some nice shots:
at the outer banks:
a light house on the bay:
two of my better photos of a roller coster:

http://lh6.google.com/viperv303/RqbHjRCurEI/AAAAAAAAAKc/4pJa47qDuCg/P1000582.JPG?imgmax=800
some random nature shots:
and here are 2 pictures i stiched together from multiple photos:
http://lh4.google.com/viperv303/RqbHjxCurFI/AAAAAAAAAKk/sC5XUyK7x5o/s800/mountain%20view%202.jpg
http://lh6.google.com/viperv303/RqbQTRCurPI/AAAAAAAAAMA/Yqd5rtXZRvs/s800/KD%20Park.jpg
My problem is, i am also still using a 35mm film camera and most of my vacation pictures are done on that instead of digital. I have dozens of shoe boxes filled with photos i wish i could digitiz.
So who else has some awsome pictures to share?
I saw the first two, and swore you were from VA... I was close.
Saw the RR pics, and was impressed someone else knew about that place.
What software did you use to stich?
I've picked up a Nikon Film scanner, if you are interested, I can get you more info (just PM me). Its a bit expensive, but well worth it. I have scanned a negative / slide at such a resolution, it ends up being 25mb when compressed as a JPG. (Great scanner!)

ever since i got my new digital camera i've been taking pictures left and right. every time i use it i find some new neat feature i can do with it. here are some random night shots i took using the long exposer times:
http://lh3.google.com/viperv303/R9SwLbhl9CI/AAAAAAAAB5M/VN9jlwwzrts/s800/P1000329.JPG
believe it or not, this picture was taken at 9:20 at night. where i was it was almost pitch black. but the shutter time was perfect for this one that it made it seem as if it was day time:
http://lh6.google.com/viperv303/R9SwMLhl9DI/AAAAAAAAB5U/9myIYs1sCUE/s800/P1000332.JPG
more randomish:

heh, yeah, i goto KD a lot in the summer. i'm a theme park hunter. :D
and yeah, not many people know about the B&O place. even that day i was there, there was hardly anyone there. i think that if it wasn't for the money they get from the government, that place would've been torn down long ago. :naw: good thing its still up and running. i've even got an HO scale model of that same crane i took a picture of. :)
and as for software, i used Ulead PhotoImpact and a lot of time. i just stood in one spot and *click* *click* *click* around from that point. then got home and slowly sewed to them together and did touchup work where they over lapped. its a time comsueming thing.
and that must be one hell of a film scanner. i thought the 3mb per picture was bad on my new camera, but 25mb? shees.:eek2:

Paragliding is foot launched from a hill side or in my case a 3600 foot mountain. No planes to jump out of, done that too and its a blast!! Try both!

Those wolves are awesome. Did they just come onto the trail an walk with you? Is this a normal occurence up there?
Oh and the pictures from the air are awesome.
Gotta get the wife up there. I've been to Edmonton AB, Calgary and a couple other places (always in winter) with work but never got a chance for any recreation.

Thanks for all the kind words. We have a Wolf refuge about 15 km from town. They have 4 rescued Wolves and unlike most zoos they take them out to crown land to exercise them. Wiley the big wolf they have had since he was a few weeks old. He is great around people and a bit of a goof. The smaller wolf was rescued when she was a few years old and skittish around people. It was a little expensive to go along with the owners but it was way worth it. Pretty neat place to visit if you are every down this way.
Gold Knight there are a few guys that offer tandem paraglides. If you guys are ever down here ya gotta try it. Golden's Mount 7 is one of the top 5 flying sites in the world!

As far as a flag on the vehicle, yes that would be quite a prize indeed!
One of my unfinished projects is a 1957 Chevy 1-ton pickup. The back glass has a small flag sticker from long ago. It's tattered and worn. If and when I finally restore the truck, I plan to keep it on the glass as is:).

Mark those sunrise pics are AWSOME!
Thanks! I think once most folks figure out how to expose sunsets/sunrises, that they're able to get their own pretty nice pictures. After that, it's mostly being able to see the composition that the photographer wants. Of course, if you want those pictures with the sun/moon enlarged, it helps to have a good tripod and telephoto lens!
Great Stuff Mark!!

No, I'm retired. I enjoy photography and sharing my pictures, but I honestly think I've got a little bit further to go before my work achieves "professional" quality. Maybe I get lucky sometimes. Thanks for the nice compliment, though!

That was the hight of rush hour, that is damn near bumper to bumper. Of course the town is only like 5 blocks long, and there is a traffic light, but the congestion thins out pretty quickly. And it does get worse in the summer and fall when the flatlanders invade.

a few pages back i posted photos of a pond i built for my mom and dad. i also said that i liked this time of year when the wild life moves in or pokes its head out to see whats happening. well this is the first considerable wildlife i've seen yet. :2thumbs: a new family of garter snakes. here is mom and 1 baby. the rest are hiding under the pond liner.:yup:

A word of caution -
The posting of copyrighted images belonging to someone else is not legal and puts this forum at risk. I don't want to be a jerk but it is disturbing for a professional photographer to see his/her work displayed without their knowledge and most likely without compensation. It quite literally is stealing.
As someone who sells my photographs on occasion, I am sensitive to this. I hope you understand.

One of my favorite jumps and pics. Backflips out of a plane at 10,000 feet is one of the coolest things I have ever done.

And I thought the whole point of this thread was to post OUR OWN pictures, not someone else's? Kinda takes the fun out of it if we have to "compete" (I know it's not competition) with professional photographs taken by non members. Not to mention the theft issue........

Not as far as I know. Some of us just wanted to point out that this thread was intended to share our own photographs and that posting someone else's images is the wrong thing to do. Near as I can tell, at least 3 of us have photography businesses and are very sensitive regarding the posting of copyrighted images.
Let's get back to sharing our photographs :ok:

This post amazes me. I really do not expect that everyone would understand my point of view when it comes to photography but, a Moderator? :sad2:
I have had my images stolen and used without permssion or compensation. It is not cool when you are reading a magazine and see one of your photographs being used and claimed by some loser as their own. Seeing them posted somewhere on the internet is really no better.
I am done here.

I agree it is in poor taste but I doubt any harm was meant. I suspect is more of a situation of lack of understanding than ill intent. I fight stolen images all the time and typically the offender is unaware they have done any harm.

You may be right but I took it as a mockery of my post. We may never know.
Your images are first rate and I thank you for sharing them. I would like to meet up with you sometime in a remote location, cameras on tripods, enjoying a sunrise.
I am heading to Hood River, Oregon this weekend to photograph the orchards in bloom.
Take care

Hey, cool shots.
The Brown Pelicans seem to be much more interesting than the white's we have around here. They mostly float around and once in a while you can catch them trying to suck down a carp twice their size. :puke:
Not sure how he fit it in but I bet he didn't keep it for long...

My space post was done strictly in humor. I happen to agree with your point about posting other's photos. I dont think anyone really thought for a moment I actually took that picture with my new telephoto lens.:naw:
I, as other's have said, am really more interested in seeing members photos also. Again, it was only a joke. Maybe poor timing, but most of my jokes are.

Thanks John. I suspect we'd enjoy that sunrise as photographers do checking light levels, angles, ISO settings and eventually being blown away by nature and remembering at the last moment to hit the shutter release button.
A little story from me. I don't tell them often but I think this is fitting.
This is my most stolen image. I have no intent to sell it. If anyone asks I'll probably give them limited rights to use it. If a person were to run a google search for grebes they'd find it near the
