A few days ago i was driving and started to freak out on my antenna....first it was whipping back and force like it was possessed (doing 70 on the freeway) and then it started to go into a orbital gyration with hula hoop syndromes.... call me crazy but corny as it seems it did happen! does anyone know of a place that can balance an out of balance antenna?

That is soo funny.. Mine does the exact same thing in the mornings when its below freezing .... Ice builds up on it and it goes buzerk... Possesed is right..
Mine went so out of control it started to smack the windshield.. I had to pull over and break and wipe off the ice... Funny stuff...

so it is true! well i will admit it was cold here in pendleton, oregon and ice was on it as well...maybe they should have thrown on an antenna ice defroster...well in a few more days i will be back in arizona so i should not have an issue....

I've noticed my antenna does some crazy stuff from time to time and I'm not happy at all with my FM signal. Do you people with antenna problems still get clear reception? Anybody else disappointed with reception?

I wasn't happy with the FM reception either but it's a non-issue now with my added Sirius Sportster and Ipod

Say it isn't so!
My TJ's antenna constantly whips around while driving, smacking the windshield, or otherwise just acting silly. The FM reception on it also sux. Hope my JK doesn't do the same thing:rollingeyes:

If I recall correctly...Isn't there a spiraling ridge that runs down the whole length of the antenna???
If I was a betting man I would be willing to bet money that that spiraled ridge is catching the wind as your driving down the road.
I wonder what DC will have to say when people start bringing their vehicles in because the antenna is chipping, or maybe even cracking the front windshields, or damaging the paint?.... Hmmm? Can you say Antenna recall?:yup:
I'm wondering if theres a way to either tie the top of the antenna and secure it to some kind of an anchor point somehow.
Or maybe by putting one of those antenna decorations on top, it may create enough drag to keep that sucka from flailing around??
It's worth a shot...Let me know if it works.
The coolest one I ever saw was A small Disney character, (Goofy actually), He was hanging on to the top of the antenna (horizontally) for dear life with his feet up in the air behind him.
Good luck,

Those little spiral deals on the antenna are there so it doesnt whistle at highway speeds.

Hey there 04DrBlur,
I got a chance to take a look at the antenna today, and I believe I owe you an apology for laughing at your answer about the
whistling,(although I did get a real kick out of it when I first read it...I thought you were joking).
To be totally honest, when I took a good look at it I had a good laugh at my own expense, because since I knew that I had seen the spiral before,
but I hadn't taken a really good look at it. I thought that the spiraled ridge was actually a wire that was wrapped around the antenna and was nicely covered up some how :rotflmao1: Pretty good eh...?
I do have an answer to fix the problem though...Just rub the antenna shaft with some powdered Viagra...That should stiffin' that sucka right up:LOL:
although you may have to reapply it once in a while.:rotflmao:

well, here are my thoughts on the issue... My TJ that i baught used had no antenna at all, and so i picked one up from the local auto parts store for about ten bucks. it was never a problem until i mounted some lights up on the windshield, then i would notice that thing was always smacking into the light... drove me nuts! so one day i just went outside and grabbed the tip of the antenna, and pulled it away from the windshield until it had a slight curve in it... it was hardle enough to notice, and enough to keep that thing away from the light. so my suggestion is either bend it out of the way, buy a new one, maybe a shorter one or stiffer one or my third idea was this: I like the look of an all black antenna, so some heat shrink tubing slipped over the whole thing and shrunk on would make it all black, keep the spiral ridge there, and provide a softer edge for if it ever does hit the glass or the paint. But then again, a new antenna all together might help reception (though i don't have any problems with reception) and a layer of heat shrink tubing might worsen reception... doubt it, but maybe. Good luck!

the reception in both my 2 dr and 4 dr suck!! they also freak out going down the road which really is a bad deal since I have to drive the interstate 20 miles to work every morning. I am looking at sirius as well and getting my weather from the ham
