View Full Version : Now Why in the World Isn't This Offered in the 2-Door JK's?

Considering the fact that there are only 3 people in my family, the fourth seat in my TJ has aways been kind of an akward/wasted space on road trips and the lack of a 3rd seatbelt has always made my TJ useless when it came to taking the inlaws or other married friends of mine on short trips around town. Need I say, one of the things I've always wished my TJ had was a 3rd seatbelt and a rear seat that split. And, now I see that both are available in the 4-Door JK Unlimited version but wouldn't you know it, not in the 2-Door JK. :banghead:

I just don't get it, by all accounts, the new JK is supposed to be bigger, wider and more comfortable and I would think there would be more than enough room to accomodate these features. Oh well, maybe there will be a way to work in a JK Unlimited setup. Or, maybe I'll just have to break down and get a 4-Door instead

I really like the idea of the split bench, but if the JK 2dr is anything like the TJs wouldn't the seat be farther back between the wheel wells?? If it is then I don't know if they would add the 3rd seat belt due to the narrower seat. They might be looking at it as 3 adults wouldn't be comfortable so their may be no need for the 3rd belt. Just my thoughts...:naw:

Yeah, I see what you're saying but by the looks of this shot...

... it seems to me like there is way more room than the TJ has and again, the JK is physically wider than the TJ. And, I should point out that if you look at the JK-Unlimited photo above, the bench is about the same width as the regular JK, fits just between the fenders. But, I'm sure the boy geniuses at DC know what they're doing

Life would be too easy if DC thought of everything.

Someone like Bestop will probably come out with a great aftermarket waterproof seat that will make you want to tear that one out ayways.

They didn't do it because there's not enough room between the front & back seats for the backs to lay down. The seat back is between the wheel wells in the unlimited, but the axles are much further apart than the 2 door.

Call me stupid, but the back seat in the 2dr lays down flat right? Just doesn't have the split? Makes it much easier to reach back for a cold beer errr... im mean... uhh coke outta the cooler when you're wheeling.

Naw, the top folds down in half and then the entire thing folds up against the front seats just like the TJ's do now.

do you know if theres a way to remove the rear seats? lol well i know there's a way, but like a manufactures quick release system or anything? If not, im breaking out the tools day one and that back seat is gonna sit in my apartment.

Yes, and if it's anything like the TJ, all you need to do is pull a couple of cotter pins and pull it out :)
