I was thinking about getting one of these. Mainly because I have a trailer that I won't be able to man handle like my old little trailer. Has anyone used these for lining up tongues & trailer hitches? Can you see much else if you you use it for that?

I was thinking about fabing something to blend the lcd into the top surface of the center console. The top looks like it shold flip up as it is now. A flip up lcd would fit there nicely with a little custom fab work. Any thoughts?

I noticed that they have wireless backup cameras at my local Costco for $90. I'm not sure how good they work, but I did notice that one mounting option is to put it on your sunvisor. I thought that was kind of a neat idea, since it would be out of your way when you don't need it. For most conditions I don't think I would need a camera, but I thought it might be kind of nice to have one off-road. That way when backing up I could see if there's a big rock or something behind me.

As far as using it to line up your hitch, I think that would take a little practice. My husband has a backup camera in his Lexus and I do notice that things are way closer in real life than they look like in the camera. I think it would be pretty hard to line up a hitch, but it's probably possible with practice.

i have one that was installed on my kenwood deck and can say that it it saved me from bumping into a pole that i did not see in the mirrors. my only problem is when i back up on cold days the exhaust smoke gets in the way at times.....

Hello, I am new here and let me chime in on this subject.

I should get my JK X in a couple of weeks and one of the first things I will do is adding a back up camera.

CircuitCity sells systems for this purpose. I have a GPS (7 in. screen) to which I can hook a camera.

They cameras they sell are either stand alone water proof or are in bedded in the license plate frame.

I have been thinking of this. Some guy over on the FJCURISER forum site installed one of those wireless ones. It looked pretty kewl but i didnt like the way he mounted it. Im thinking of ordering that shroud thing that is used to mount the handheld gps unit but mount my backup screen in there. I ordered the MYGIG, Im pretty sure that there isnt an option for the backup cam for that.

Where do you plan to mount it? I want to put mine as close to the centerline as possible, so a license plate mount is out. I was thinking of the third brakelight, but I can't think of a way do a "clean" install.

Also, I'm kicking around the idea of mounting some near the front wheels to help "spot" when rockcrawling - I'm probably nuts, but wouldn't that be cool?

I am not sure yet, according to the descriptions, some have a 120 degree view. I hope the hitch will be visible.

I have that wireless camera from costco! Its works great, gets a little interference here and there but nothing to worry about. Its supposed to mount to the bolts for your license plate but i mounted it to the bumper just under the spare. I mounted the screen to the plastic trim piece at the top of the windshield. I can't wait to hitch up to somthing. the viewing angle is amazing, really wide and tall. As for things seeming closer than they are or vise versa, it took a day to get used to backing up via camera... but i usually park outside my garage, as the inside is full of lawn mowers, golf carts, etc... so when i back up the garage, everything is right were i expect it to be. as soon as i can no longer see the driveway in front of the garage door, i stop, and bingo, i'm right where i want to be. I recommend getting one, camera goes on with the reverse lights, and i wired the screen to an ignition fed source, so that goes on and off with the Jeep... never have to do anything, except put it in reverse. good luck!

You must be referring to the RoadMaster VR3. I just picked one up from Walmart today myself.

Yup, thats the one, the VR3... i do kind of wish it wasn't wireless... there is a bit of static/interference here and there and while its really not a bit deal, i'm kinda of OCD about that kind of stuff and a non-wireless one would not have these issues. But either way, i love it, and its always fun to hear my passengers say: Oh cool, what is that?...

Hey I saw that one this weekend. I thought the sceen might be too small. You can see well enough to feel good about your purchase?

the 2.5 inch LCD screen isn't bad, bigger screen always makes it easier to see what your looking at, but honestly, it has a really wide angle lense that shows plenty, and the small screen really isn't an issue. i've been using mine since christmas now and love it. I can't wait to get a hitch back there and start pulling my trailer.. i'll prolly pull it empty just so i can have the chance to use the camera lining it up. i recommend it for anyone with a trailer, or who justs thinks a camera would be cool... just my 2 cents... good luck

I read somewhere on the Jeep website that the MyGIG did have a camera jack for a add on camera. I am not sure if they kept this but you may be lucky.

Could you guys post some pics of your camera to bumper mount (sounds best for me too, I have a class III trailer hitch), and how/where you attached the screen in the driver area? I'm really interested in this... much less expensive than buying a whole new head unit w/ DVD and then buying the camera acce$$ory to boot!
