did this install last night, I found that plastic panel underneath the steering wheel, my CB fit perfectly tight in that space. :yup:
The G/F wasn't too impressed about me cutting in the panel since it's a lease !!! :rotflmao1: :rotflmao1:

Eh..tell her to chill. You can probably buy that panel for less than $20. Just replace it if you decide to turn it back in...but you wouldn't do that now, WOULD YOU? :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

not before the end of the lease and it would be just to get a 2011 model :rotflmao1: :rotflmao1:
my first Jeep was also a lease, returned it after 4 years, had to put it back stock, sold all the parts cause they didn't fit the '07 model. Samething will prob. happen in 4 years :rotflmao1:

I screwed mine into the radio speaker bridge on the roll bar. I used the dome light wire for power (with an inline fuse) and the ground in the dome/speaker module for the ground and I mounted the antenna in a factory hole in the body. Works well, but I'm missing my dome light and the CB will shut off about 30 seconds after the truck is turned off. I'd like to find a separate always-hot wire for the CB and dome to share. Is there any type of always hot wire in the JK like there is behind the glove in the TJ?
Thanks!

CB mount in dash under factory buttons in front of shifters is where I wanted to put it. If I mess up, I found out that OEM plastic piece that seems simple enough to cut is about $35 from Jeep. lol.

Another option if you like is the tuffy overhead console and there is a dash hoop with a center plate that runs back to the roll bar made by I believe High Rock. It's available from 4 wheel parts.

It works great if all you are looking for is a bare-bones CB. I use it on the trail to talk with other rigs (I have a few two-way radios for those who don't have one) and for emergencies on the road. The weather feature is great and I find myself using that daily.
I placed the connecter box behind the glove compartment and I am happy with the set-up. It is very clean and I can disconnect it and store the unit in the center console when I leave the vehicle.
Overall it is probally the best bang for the buck.

The UltraMount CB Antenna System comes with everything you need to mount the antenna to the inside of the license plate holder. It includes the coax cable and a FireStik FL-4 4' fiberglass antenna. You can also purchase the bracket to hold the all-in-one handset of the Cobra 75 from Cool Tech. It is called the VersaMount.

Kidding aside, how's the reception, and transmitting power with this antenna set up? You'd think the ground plane would be better with them mounted more in the center of the vehicle (better rearward transmitting). Do you think one antenna would do it?

some have suggested mounting on the side of the console but I have a Uniden510 (very small) and I think it would markedly decrease leg room. There is a company called Arizona Rocky Road Outfitters that makes specialty antenna and CB mounts. Their mount is to the windshield frame above the mirror. I'm sure you've seen the overhead console by Tuffy and I'm sure one could mount inside the console. I want to mount a roll cage, High Rock makes one and Poison Spyder is working on a bolt in and a weld in and that's where I want to mount mine. Let us know where you put it.

Just remeber if you cut any panels or mount you C.B. with the speaker down , the sound will be muffled or you won't be able to hear it at all. You will have to invest in an external speaker.....there is a plug in on the back of most citizen band (C.B.) radios for the speaker. I will try and take some pics of the one in my semi.....but it is pretty much overkill since I run an amp with it (since us truckers try and walk over each others signals....Kinda like having the big dog syndrome..LOL ) I just wonder how the sound is on those all-in-one c.b.'s some of you guys are running....especially with the top and doors off rolling down a paved road ?

Is there room in this thread for an amateur radio (ham) mount?
Here is my Icom 706mkIIg. For those not familiar with it, it's what's known as a "DC to daylight" rig as it can operate on just about any frequency commonly is use. I mounted the control head with a GPS type window mount and ran the separation cable to the radio via the front dash panel. I notched the back of the top dash piece to gain access and then went down behind the trim and under the carpet to the radio. I like this setup as all I have to do is unplug the separation cable and throw the head in the glove box and you wouldn't see anything from the outside.

Next is the radio itself mounted under the front passenger seat. The smaller box on top is an automatic antenna tuner made by LDG. The antenna tuner electronically matches impedance between the antenna and the radio such that all I have to do is push a button on the control head and I have the lowest SWR possible on my current frequency. There are two coax connectors coming out of the radio itself one for HF (long distance) and one for VHF/UHF (local) use. Only the HF passes through the antenna tuner. VHF/UHF out goes directly to the antenna. Coax length from radio to antennas is ten feet (a near perfect length). Power goes directly to the battery through the firewall. I used the factory hole that is filled with foam located behind the outer passenger AC vent (accessible by popping off the dash end cap piece). Also note that I grounded both the radio and the antenna tuner to the seat mounting bolt.

Here are my antenna mounts. They are made by Arizona Rocky Road especially for Jeeps and mount to the spare tire carrier. I choose these because they rise above most of the body of the vehicle. On one, I've mounted a 102" stainless whip for HF use (resonant on 10 meters and tunable to several other bands). On the other, I've mounted a small dual-band VHF/UHF antenna. The VHF/UHF is low enough to not cause me much trouble and the 102" whip is on a quick disconnect, so it's just push and turn and it pops right off. Good if I need to go under some low trees. The coax passes into the cab via the top hinge point of the tailgate. They just sandwich in when the gate is closed and they are held in place via sticky foam mounts and cable ties.

Here is my setup. It is both mobil and handheld. I have it hooked up to the Ultramount 4' firestick. It works great!

I have the very same CB and have found it to be very versatile. I liked it better than the similar Cobra CB because of the ability to convert it to a handheld. the Midland is very simple to use and is a good trail radio and a good highway unit with a good antenna....

hows the reception on that midland 75-882? whats the range?
I get about 5 miles on it while hooked up to my firestik and about a mile or so the other way.

So how do you hook that up to a 4' antenna ? Do you just plug it into the cig. lighter for power too ?

yes. the cord for the midland has a "double ended" part. one is for power into the cig lighter, and the other part is a coax connection to hook it up to the antenna.
So its not like the Cobra where it has a separate power box that needs to be mounted somewhere ?

Please let us know how it works. This is a good option for ease of use and the ability to take it out of the jeep when not in use , I am assuming !

What did you mount for the "Button" on the back of the radio?

Here's mine mounted in front of the shifter

I did have to cut the mounting bracket down 1/2" so the shifter didn't rub on the radio. Also clearanced the rubber boot on the end of the coax so it would sit low enough to not be in front of the ESP and hazard buttons. A 90deg coax adapter would have done the trick ut I'm a cheap bastard.

So, what's the story with the ground wire that looks to be attached to the antenna wire and grounded to the antenna mount? Is there a splice in the antenna wire or? How do I know if i need a ground wire like that?
BTW my antenna is mounted to the 3rd brake lite. CB is grounded to the body. SWR is between 1.2-1.6 or so on channels 1-40.

I mounted my Cobra 75 under the passenger seat and the antenna on the spare tire mount.
Has anyone mounted their CB under (and attached to) the lid of the console?
