View Full Version : Fishing poll

Everyone has been posting a poll recently and I thought I would join in the trend. I am curious as to how many JK owners fish compaired to how many do not. To make it more intresting and the data more relevent I broke it down into several categories. If we get enough of a response I might do a couple more just for the fishermen and get more details. I plan to track the responses because this is research on an idea I have.
EDIT: Btw I forgot to add discuss if you want. I personally fish for whatever swims both salt and fresh water.

I'm not a big fisherman, but I do enjoy stream fishing for Salmon and steelhead. My uncle got me hooked on Salmon fishing a few years ago, he is obsessed though. He even started a guide service last year just so his wife would let him go more. :rotflmao1:
Id also love to try deep sea fishing at some point.

I'm a huge fisherman. I even went to a four day work schedule so I could fish one more full day per week! I 'm pretty much a Smallmouth Bass angler with several trout trips thrown in for good measure. I also go deep sea fishing four to five times per year.
I fish therefore I am!

I get out to fish only a few times a year. One week of camping where I spend most of the time on the lake. Mostly just panfish to keep enough for a meal. I'm planning on downsizing the boat that I hardly use and putting the extra money into something I enjoy everyday, my jeep.

Results while by no means a full cross section are intresting. As many people fish both as fish freshwater (more or less). It also is not that amazing that the number that only fish salt is low in compairson. What is puzzeling me is I thought we might have a higher percentage of non-anglers. Is it folks not reading the post or more of us fish than I thought?

i have only met one man, in my life, that didn't fish. in fact, didn't even know how. i turned to my sister after discovering this and said "i'm sorry. i tried to be friends with your husband. he hates sports, beer, and he doesn't know how to fish. he is dead to me."

If it swims I love trying to catch it. Most of the time I'm land locked so bass, crappie and catfish are what I'm mostly after. I have an 18' flat bottom and 4 kayaks. I've about decided to sell the flat bottom since my kayaks are my favorite way to fish now. I try to get down to the beach several times a year and surf fish or fish beyond the breakers (btb) for sharks, reds, and jacks. I know some good Jeep accessible spots on the north Tx Gulf coast if anyone is up for some surf fishing. The reds are turning on about now. Now if I can just get work to turn off.

I am glad you fellas drug this back up and moved it here. Come on guys lets get to talking fishing.
BTW if I can figure out how I plan to add one more answer to the poll. Everytime I pass an aquarium I'm figuring out what pound test and hook size would be best to catch a neon tetra.

The streams and rivers around have lots of Cutthroat Trout. You bet my whole family goes fishing when we can. We have a long season from the beginning of May until the end of October. Prospecting for gold is another hobby we enjoy and that season is even longer, it starts when the water is warm enough to put our hands into the water and lasts until we can't stand the cold water in the late Fall. We carry our gold pans with us when fishing just in case we find a good spot or the fish aren't biting. Both hobbies are good excuses to go wheelin' in the mountains. :driving:
ummm yup love it. Saltwater/freshwater,lakes,ponds,rivers or creeks if i can get a line in it i'm happy!!!!!

Dad is gone now, and now I LOVE to fish, cause I feel like I am still with Dad.
Damn, never thought writing about fishing would make me cry. God I miss the old man, think I should go fishing now.:yup:

We are in the beginning of the Spring run off from snow melting up in the mountains. The river and streams are full of fast flowing, muddy water, very cold and dangerous. This will continue into June. Sigh! We are at flood stage now and more rain is predicted to fall all next week. Will the sun ever shine again? :dontknow2:

Not yet, it's on the list. I have to convince the wife to give up going south to visit the sister in Palm Coast Florida and head north to the beach for fishing. There is good fishing around there though and it's not too bad off the beaches here (meaning Hunting Island State Park, Huntington Beach State Park, and places like that too crowded elsewhere)

If you don't have kids yet it's a priceless feeling and the best experience I've ever had with them when they catch a fish. Make sure to pass it along with them or any kids in your life as they will think of you the same way...
This is what my dad asked of me before he passed. Keep real and make sure the kids realize there is more to life than the latest gadgit. Ok off the soap box. I'm going outside to cast the rod for about an hour for lunch.

Love fishing, even keep a fold-up rod in the ambulance for those quiet days. I only catch and release when working, and people love to see me out there with them. Gives me a chance to meet people under better than my usual situations.

I've been fishing since I was like 7. Mostly saltwater. I live 2 blocks from the Bay and ocean where people drive from everywhere to fish. Fishing isn't my most favorite priority. I prefer Mountaineering, rock climbing, skydiving, and offroading more than fishing actually. But since I can walk to the bay to fish, I end up fishing like 4-5 times a week for a few hours all summer long. Also, most my friends don't like what I like, but I can alway's take them out to a lake with some beers, So I end up fresh water fishing 3 or 4 times a month. I usually get a LOT of stripped bass on the bay near my house, so It's fun because a lot of them are big and put up a fight. I used to date a girl that LOVES fishing. She would rent a large private boat with a driver once a month and go deep sea fishing. She even goes to Alaska once a year to fish . So I prolonged our relationship so I can tag along on the private boat with her... but after a while I couldn't take her any longer... so no more deep water fishing for me. Also in October I always drive up to the north part of NY (near Canada) with about 6-10 friends for 4 or 5 days and we get tons of salmon and stealheads :)

I can't tell you... or everything will be gone by the time I get there :rotflmao1:
Kidding! We are near that area usually, somewhere in Oswego. I'm so used to the drive, that I don't even remember the name of the roads, just remember how to drive there and around the town. Some of my friends have getaway houses there so we stay at someones place, but once we couldn't find anything and camped out for a week near the stream. The good places are about 20 min. west off 81.

I love to fish but don't get out enough.
I've fished 3 of the great lakes, Superior, Huron, and Michigan.
I can't count the lakes and streems.
My favorite is steel head on the south shore of lake superior in the spring.
Shootin line (40lbs test) on a martin multiplier and a heavy rod.
The water is cold so bring your electric sox!
