Anyone try mounting their CB radio where the factory mygig goes? I don't mean by screwing it on top of it. I'd like to try to recess or sink my into the plastic (cut out place for CB to sit in). I think it will give it more of a factory look to it. If anyone's tried it I'd love to see some pictures. If not, I'll post some before, during, and after installation in a few days. :yup:

I was considering it and its definitely possible. There are CBs that will fit in that area if you get a single DIN HU for above it.
I just didn't feel like fabbing up a mounting bracket. If you do it, you could look at mod'ing a single DIN mounting bracket and taking the "pocket" out, or take a double din and create a custom surround for the CB and HU and fit it over the outside spacers.
Take a look at the mounting kits and you'll see what I mean.
But yes, it could be done. Haven't seen anyone do it yet though...

I've ordered a new single din HU, the Metra double din mount kit, and all the antenna wire stuff. I have a Midland CB, that's just a bit smaller than single din. I now just need some time to get it worked out. I plan to also install a powered sub. I'm thinking about putting the Kenwood one, under the passenger seat.
FunN4Lo, if you want to cruise over here, I'd be happy to give you a hand. My Dad's a TV repair man, and he's got an awesome set of tools. Actually, I have a band saw, drill press, and other tools that may help with any modifications to face plates etc. I'm in Costa Mesa.

Well after a long day with Woods. Looks like its almost done. Mines all finished and his will probably be done tomorrow if he gets a chance to finish it. I'll post up some pictures tomorrow after noon of the CB radio install, my rough plans for a roof rack, my front and rear stubby bumpers, and last but not least my enlarged storgae tub! Its been a busy weekend so far! :eek2:

Here's a pic of my new HU and CB. It's not completely finished yet, as I've got to mount the CB speaker, and make a mount for the CB Mic. :eek2:

I want to do something extremely similiar to your setup Woods..
Does the cb mount up to the reciever bracket somehow?
Do you have any pics of how you did this? :)

I took a thin piece of metal and bent it in a Z shape. I bolted the metal between the Metra Harness and the HU, then bolted the CB to the metal underneath. I'll take some pics soon, as I have some more work to do when I get my sub. :eek2:

Nice work bro.
i would like to do this with my scanner. would you be willing to put together some sort of a diagram for the pieces you had to fabricate to get it to fit.
I gotta go out and get the new scanner and head unit first though.
EDIT: What was the product number for your Metra Kit and if youd on't mind me asking where did you get it? thanks

I got it at Crutchfield. It came with the HU, though I had to call them and have the Single Din kit changed to a Double Din kit. Crutchfield item #120956511
I plan to do a write-up on this, as soon as I get some time.

It's weird that you just did this, as I'd been planning it in my head for a few weeks, various parts are converging on my residence over the course of the next week.. (by this weekend if I'm lucky) and I'll post my version of the same thing. (I first saw this sort of setup in a tacoma forum)
Again, good jorb!
