I was told by a local shop that I could swap out my 3.8 for a Hemi. Anyone tried this? I would think that if it is possible, it would be cost prohiibitive. But what a rocket!

Do a search for "hemi" or check out burnsvilleoffroad.com (http://burnsvilleoffroad.com) . They, among a few others, have done it.

I'm curious when he's gonna do his first Viper powered JK, like the TJs he's done.

They used to have the pricing online, on some of the motors it was more than the cost of the Jeep:eek2:

I'm going to answer whoever asked about the price for a Burnsville Offroad engine swap... I got this information from elsewhere on the forum, and I'm passing this along second-hand, so don't quote me on the exact figures.
As you probably know, they offer 3 different V8 installations for the JK... here is the price, installed (which I believe includes all the necessary part change-outs, and comes with a 1 year / 12K mile warranty):
4.7L = ~$15K installed
5.7L Hemi = ~$18K installed
6.1L SRT Hemi = ~$25K installed
Very pricey, as you can see. As usual, that old rule of aftermarket applies: How fast do you want to go? The answer dictates the price...

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.:no2:

I called Burnsville. Over $17,000 for a Hemi and everything that goes with the engine swap out. Guess I'll stick with the bolt-ons!

Just motor? Axle upgrades? Will the stock tranny be able to handle all that?

Yeah I will second that!!
Anyway the supercharger is only $6000 by the time you add headers, intake, and exhaust you are only up to max $7500
Having a v8 to me is not worth the added $3500 minimum
Well I mean unless I hit the lotto or something then I can promise I would have 2 or 3 jk's in the drive way with viper engines and saaaaaweeeeet lifts!:2thumbs:

Had the 5.7L put in by Burnsville. Total satisfaction. It gets off the line quick and the passing power at highway speeds is impressive... 70mph to 85mph is a cinch. Not real interested in pushing the top end, but it cruises effortlessly at 80-85mph (rarely do I run that fast for any period of time). The 5.7 will flat out light up the tires. I went to 5.13's then swapped back to the 4.10's. Glad I did. mileage has suffered a bit. 12's in the city and 16 on the hwy. I figured I gave up 3mpg for the 20,000 miles of annual driving. So, approximately 35 gallons @ $3/gal is Wendy's number 3 over $100.00.

I understand wanting a bigger engine, but does it do anything for offroading? From what I can tell, there is plenty of power for off road use, so unless you are just wanting it for on road use, which it's a Jeep so who cares how it performs on road, it's all about off road IMO.

That would be awesome to have a 5.7 But unfortunately it's not in the budget. :naw: I can't imagine what that must be like.

Horsepower is king in racing.....look at the Baja races....
Also, hill climbing and deep sand (dunes) equire hp ...so there are applications ....but not for everyone ....and at that price.......I'll pass. But if you have a farm, you could use it to till your soil. :yup:

Whats involved in finding a wrecked diesel Liberty or GC and yanking the motor out of that?
Or is there more to it then just motor?

the 5.7 Hemi swap includes the 545 MDS tranny (5 speed w/OD) and free flowing exhaust.
