Hi All....My other Jeep, ( I own a 2dr JKX) is a 72' CJ5 with a 78' body on it, 304ci. I blew the reverse idler gear in it a few years back and it's been sitting there rusting ever since. Would like to get it going again. From all I can tell I have a T-14, 3sp in it. Thought it was the T-15 until I found out that I have the 6 bolt pattern on the cover instead of 8.
I was wondering if anybody has any ideas about changing to a different tranny? Mybe a T-18, 4sp.? Has anybody done that swap?
I'm Just looking for ideas or see if anybody might know of a T-14 that's for sale?
Thanks Much......

I did a swap I had a t15 on my 304 74' cj5 and went to a ford 4spd od trans. if you have a dana 20 they make an adaptor for this all you have to do is switch to a newer t150 clutch bell housing. you could go to the t150 or t176 but I believe you have to use the 300 transfer case of the newer 76' and up cj5

I went from a T5 to a NP435 to a NV4500. All it takes is money, I like the NV the best though.

It looks like I have a T-18 and transfer case available to me. I've heard they are great HD trannys. Do any of you know what kind of, if any mods, ie, bell housing adapter, I would need to install it?
Thanks.....

there are two types of t-18 trans. of course the one you want has like a 6.25:1 1st gear and mates to a dana 20 t case. i havent reserched this info for a while but its all over the net.

Advanced adapters should be able to help u with any needs. They hooked me up when I put an 18 in and had to mate it to a D300 xfer case.
