Does anyone know about wiring like this...
I have a cobra 18wsxtII. It had orange, red and black wires.
Is there a way to splice this into another plug (like from a cell phone charger, or some other wayward gone device lying around..) and expect no issues?
I don't need the CB for daily use, but hiway trips and group meets I think it'd be nice..
I scrapped the idea of mounting it in the dash with my sony head unit.
(my whole pile of parts for this are being returned)

So you're wanting to basically create a cig light adapter for your 18wxst?

Not a problem to run your cb power from a cig lighter plug. I think that Radio Shack sells a plug for splicing, or just use an old one...
But, why did you scrap your plans to mount the CB in the dash?

Ah, thanks, I found 2 different models on the RS website.. I'll try to check the local branch tomorrow.
I scrapped the plan after the metra harnes and line output convert wouldn't play well with my sony cdx-gt610ui. the signal would make it to the rear speakers most of the time, then cut to the front right, once all 4 quadrants were working but only temporarily. I got tired of messing with a $100+ harness, a $40 line converter, knowing that i'd still be splicing in the CB.. and the space both added "converters" took up would dig into the space for the CB as well.
My new plan is to replace my factory single disc sirius unit with a 6dvd changer with sirius or even a mygig if i could get one hella cheap.
I wanted to use my sony head unit because it plays extremely well with my IPOD, and the best part is you can plug in an USB stick and play mp3's straight off of it. Best USB use invented to date as far as my longwinded rambling arse is concerned.

I did this, and did not use the harness. Splicing into the factory speaker wires was very easy. It fixed the rear speaker issue (not running at full power), and I put the harness money toward a Kenwood KSC-SW1 (not yet installed). If you wanted some real bass, the Basslink would be the way to go.
I hear ya on the USB. My Kenwood HU has a USB port, and it's so easy to just copy music to a thumb drive. :eek2:
Good Luck.

I did the exact same thing for my cb in the motor home with a magnetic mount antenna..... this way I can keep in touch with my wife in the jeep... then when we get to camp I can pull the cb out of the motorhome and let someone who that does not have a cb run it in their rig if need be.
