Some models come with Sirius, and others come with Sirius Ready. What do i need to add sirius to a sirius ready model?
Thanks

From what I understand you either have Sirius, or you don't. If your radio has a sat button you've got it, if not you can't just add it. It's not like on the older models where a Mopar kit would work on any model.

I just talked with my dealer's parts department, and for the stock radio that comes with the JK, it's a $150 add-on part (antenna plus decoder box, I think).
Take a look at the bottom right corner of your stock radio-- if you see the letters "RES" or "REQ" I think you're all set, just need the $150 kit (I'm having the dealer install mine, probably at the same time as the subwoofer, I'll let you know what they charged).

Grab the part numbers too if you could. that would make it easier for me sice the local dealership always had a hard time getting me what i want. This goes back to the untrained dealership employee's thread..... Thanks.
edit:
I just found it on MOPAR accessory site (http://www.mopar.com/MoparController?action=redirect&brand=jeep&appname=accessories):
Add Part # Name Description Price

I just got that part in from my dealer and there is NO decoder box, it's just an antenna and cable. I think a regular $35.00 sirius antenna would plug in and work, ill let you know. :-)

Antenna connection types have changed a couple times over the last 6 years, so knowing what the connector is would help.
My Sirius add-on is ready for me to pick up-- when I get it tomorrow I'll take some pictures of the connector & such for the group, since I'll have it in hand for a few days before I get it installed.

interesting because all i need is the antenna cable. i cant believe they are charging $150 just for that if that is what they call a Sirius Mopar kit!!!! I have my RES radio i bought on eBay that is Sirius ready and it does have some sort of funky connector. I tried plugging in Sirius antenna from my aftermarket kit and there is no way that will work. I am heading to my dealer on Saturday AM for the TSB flash, so i will see what they say for parts.
Please shoot some photos of that Mopar kit so i can see what is included...thanks

OK, here my photos, of the rear of my RES radio.
as you can see, there are tabs on the orange connector which makes it difficult to just plug a Sirius antenna into and go. The white connector is for the regular am/fm antenna. I was able to also get a Dodge Sirius antenna cable wire off eBay, it's just not for Jeeps so the connectors are different. I am going to break out my Dremel and make my own grooves. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm also curious as to the $150 kit from mopar. I called jeepsareus.com and they told me all you have to do is find a place to mount the box, run the antana (sp?), plug it in to the back of the receiver and your good to go. The stereo will control the sirius channels and everything just like if you were to get the included package with the JK.
I'm curious if this is all true. There is a Rubicon that I want to buy, but it doesn't have Sirius, just the 1 disk player. So I want Sirius, but don't want it external and FM modulated, cause it kind of defeats the purpose of a digital signal!
If I can go the mopar kit route, I will, but only after some verification from others who are taking the role of guinea pig!
Thanks everyone for any input on this! Pictures on mounting whether internal (hidden) or external would be greatly appreciated!

whats interesting is that from the product description of the Mopar Kit, it does not have a box. just the I-sheet, wiring harness and antenna. I have not heard from anyone who has been able to successfully use this kit in a JK that has a head unit which does not have a SAT button.
....But, DO NOT LET THAT STOP YOU FROM BUYING A RUBICON. I had the same issue and am much happier having to figure out my Sirius issue, instead of trying to figure out where to get my Rubicon.

The yellow plastic around the connector can be removed and is not neccessary for a connection. The other black connector in the pic is from a sirius antenna from a regular SirriusCONNECT kit for an alpine radio. All SAT radio antennas are the same connector style. I havn't tested the normal sirius antenna yet to make sure it works, but the mopar kit is just a glorified harness (antenna extension cable) with special mounts and clips to hold it the the jeep perfectly and the antenna bolts to the bracket on the roll bar instead of the normal magnetic mount that regular anteanna utilize.

Great thanks. I did not realize the plastic connector around the connection can be removed. That was a huge help as I had a wiring harness for a different DC vehichle and the connector were different. And I cant believe i did not realize the connector that I had, which was blue would just snap off. It did not problem and the wire plugs right in. I am going to remove my REQ non SAT radio for the RES with SAT built in and try it with the antenna after i get it going with Sirius. Thanks for the info.

My dealer got a RES w/Sirius head unit in, and I was able to add satellite radio to my JK. They gave me $125 credit for turning in my RES w/o Sirius.
If you know you want Sirius with your JK and are ordering your vehicle, pay the $150 extra to have it as an option. If you are buying a JK off the lot, give good consideration to models with the satellite radio already installed.
If you want to add it after the fact, it's at least $200 more expensive to do it with factory parts than an aftermarket solution. But I have no regrets-- the factory Sirius setup works great, looks great, and the antenna is completely hidden.

Anyone have a long pause when switching to Sirrus from another source ? I have at least a 4-5 second delay, that I belive is unusually long.

Yes, mine does that also. Maybe filling the buffer as it looks for the source. Don't know.

It's a real pain because I constantly switch my channels, and sources all the time. I know the XM on my Tahoe is almost instant (No more than 1, maybe 2 seconds)

If you have or want an RER everything (and I mean everything) is built in, also known as the Mygig, the sirius ant, goes directly into the back of the head unit. Now for my question, any body heard of the fix, or have the wiring diagrams so I can bypass the brake interlock (pretty easy) and the VSS signal? The VSS is an A/C voltage waveform, does 0, or no reading trigger it off, or does it require a resistance voltage? Any takers?

On my '05 Durango there is a lag time 3-4 seconds while sirius "boots up"

I haven't timed it, but all of the Sirius radios I have take a few seconds to lock on to a channel when first powering up. My audiovox PnP takes the longest.
With my Kenwood, it also took 2-3 seconds to switch from one channel to another, annoying when flipping through presets. I think the communication between the head unit & the receiver was what caused the delay, but I'm not an expert.
In comparison, the built-in Sirius on the RES head unit is refreshingly fast. I haven't noticed a lag in switching TO Sirius from another source on the radio, but that may just be because I'm used to how Sirius satellite radios start up. I don't have any experience with XM, but I'd think they'd have the same behavior?

those conectors are not the same..did that actually plug in to the radio??? i purchase an antenna from circuit city and it would not fit into the 6 disc sirius radio...I had to cut the cables and solder the splice of the two. I am curious if you physically plugged it in . i searched and the mopar radio uses something called FAKRA SMB connector versus what is currently available which is SMB connector.http://www.tss-radio.com/terk-sirmini-antenna-older-receivers-p-38.htmlhttp://www.tss-radio.com/images/fakra-connector.jpg
