View Full Version : Making the XJ a toy...

Now that I have a JK as my daily driver vehicle, my '99 XJ Sport can become more of a toy (it'll get driven about 5 miles a day on average as opposed to 70).
I've never explored lift options & such for the XJ, so what are the better options available (lifts, bumpers, etc)? I'm thinking a 2" or 2.5" lift will be all I want to do on it for now, but better bumpers & other offroad-worthy parts would be added as time goes on.
EDIT: Here are before & after pics of my XJ, plus a shot with my RedRock JK Unlimited:

We put a 3" rough ($250?) on this 99xj at the shop...the 31x11.5R15 LTB's looked brutish on it...we later put street 31's on it.
the front bumper caps would have rubbed and we wanted a tougher look so we trimmed the stock bumper and put some lights on it...I still liked the stance with the 31x11.5's
That looks to be what I'd want to do with this '99 XJ-- thanks for the pics! I especially like the idea for the front bumper... looks like 3" lift is what I'd want to do, too.

In the same boat as you with an Unlimited Rubi and 95 xj. Just installed R.E. 3.5superflex lift with Skyjacker 6* rear axle shims and 1" t-case drop.....no shaft vibes! Wouldn't want to go more aggressive with unibody and 206k miles on clock.
Check out both supplier sites for parts lists then over to NAXJA site which is the closest I've found to compare to this one.
Can anyone point me to a better Cherokee spot?

Stopped by the garage after work today, won't be picking it up until Monday after its alignment appointment.. But boy I want to:

3" lift, plus some Cooper Discover ST's (235/70/15) on the rims which they painted black.
Thanks for showing the pics, VERY happy I went 3" and not the 2 or 2.5 I was considering... at least, I'm happy so far (haven't DRIVEN it yet!)

Thanks! There's a trail I pass on the way home from work, so I'll probably have some mud pics Tuesday night :D
The lift is a BDS 3" with full leaf springs in back, new shocks & coils, and the transfer case lowered to ride better. I hadn't heard of that brand before, but their warranty seems awesome and reviews are more good than bad.
Turned out the entire suspension system was completely shot (broken rear leaf spring!) so the time was right to get the work done.
