So I was looking through the optional equipment list for the umteenth time and was starting to think about this one. A lot of the new features the JK will have were developed as a result of what Jeep owners were asking for. Now, maybe it's just me but, are there really people out there who want or need power windows and locks on their JK? Again, maybe it's just me but, what would be the point of that? :naw: :D

Without power windows it makes it real hard to safely roll down the right rear window at speed........
Shoot, have watched someone try to roll down the PASSENGER window while driving. Interesting to see how many times they weave across the lane while attempting that feat!
Oh course, with the doors off, the point is moot:)

:o yeah, i think that was more the toung n cheek point i was trying to make. with the top down and the doors off, who needs power windows and what good are power locks when somebody could just climb in the back (or worse, cut open your soft top) and take whatever they want.

Locks keep the honest and lightly tempted to remain honest. When the soft top goes on, I think I'll just leave it unlocked. I had a convertible for a couple of years and if I didn't want it stolen I didn't take it along, or took it with me when I left the vehicle. It'll be the same with the jeep............

Save Money!!! scrap the pdl and pw idea! DC could have developed other things than waste R&D on options REAL Jeepers don't care about.
why didn't Jeep or DC come up with power zippers before? Oh yeah, I am such a knuckle head...I often locked my keys inside the jeep when I had the top off...I had to call AAA all the time.

Okay I'll step up & defend the power door locks & windows. Two letters. H3. Jeep will likely steal a fair bit of never leaves the pavement market with the unlimited. Of course it needs to have comperable features for some buyers. It's an easy upgrade for them to sell for around 800 bucks? They are in business to make money, after all. For myself. I have enjoyed the windows. It's kept the top down with my 4 month old son in the back while he recieved some protection from wind blasts. So far the door locks have just been an annoyance. They do the saftey lock thing once you get rolling. So I always have to unlock the doors to get my kids out of the back. Once the hard top goes on the doorlocks make more sense. Just easier to use in any situation. Especially for those mad dash runs in a thunderstorm.

Hi Ge99ne, welcome to JK-Forum and thanks for sharing with us!
Okay, now I have a confession to make.... I.... ordered.... (*as fast as possible and under my breath*) my JK Rubicon Unlimited with power windows/locks :embarrased: Okay, there, I said it, are ya happy now :D

Oh I'm very happy. It's been 10 years since I sold my cj. The unlimited was the only way to get back in a soft top jeep. I've had the top on 2 days out of 10. The windows are going up & down depending on the speed limit. I forgot how cool 70 degrees can feel at 70 mph.:D
So, how do you disconnect the power locks and windows when you pull the doors? Is it just a wire you unhook, or did Chrysler do something neat in the door jam? Pics?

There's a substantial wiring termination. About 1" square. The mounting doesn't feel as sturdy as one would hope when you are pulling on it. I'll snap some pics tonight.

Oh no, it's no rumor. I have seen them with my own two eyes. It's simply sacrilegious :naw:

thats insane. It made me double check my order form and make sure it said "2dr 4x4" on it. lol That woulda sucked to not even think about it and go pick up and find a 2wd waiting for me. I think i would cry. Do they sit a lot lower to the ground like most 2wd versions of trucks/suv's?

The only reason I see to get the power window/lock option is for the keyless entry and alarm that only comes with that option..I get a discount on my ins for an alarm that would pay for that option over the life of the Jeep..
Power windows=Don't care
Keyless enrty=would be nice:D

Actually, they look exactly the same and you can only really tell that they aren't 4WD when you look under the front and see no differential  The really sad part of it all is that they are actually selling in my neck of the woods :naw:

That's funny, I decided to get my power package specifically so that I could open and close the rear windows without having to stop the Jeep, climb out, open the back doors and crank away. The power locks are nice too :embarrased: :D

On the 4 door,I see why you ordered that..I was thinking in terms of the 2 door only,as that is what I will be getting when they arrive...:)

So you guys have never had a wife or girlfriend who wanted in the jeep in the rain in winter when you didn't want to run over there and insert the key to open the door for her? Or ever had anything in your hands (luggage, groceries, whatever) and needed to get in without having to insert the key? Come on guys, I know jeeps are great offroad and i love that ability but don't lie to me and say that's the only thing you are using it for is offroad. Ya never know when you might have to go shopping to the keep your passenger side seat cover happy lol.

I used to lock the half doors with the top off just to annoy people. I didn't really care if it was a thief or my buddies, either way they earned the aggravation at some time or other. plus the confused look was funny to me

seriously, lock the half doors, so funny, the plastic locking glovebox and console was pretty funny too.
Maybe I'm just mean to my friends, i don't know. Either way I want a thief to have to at least try to get to my stuff,

What good are locking doors and power windows gonna do me when the doors are never gonna be on??

Its either leave it unlocked so all a thief has to do is open the door, or lock it so he can cut a nice size hole in your soft top. Wouldnt that be nice?

Wayoflife, I too ordered my Rubicon with Power Convenience Group. I ordered it because of it's CONVENIENCE. It's options like this that are raising the weight, but my choice. If you don't want the option... don't order it. Anything beyond that is mere personal preference.
I even went so far as to PUT power door locks on my 95 Cherokee (www.SpudRacer.com) because I kept leaving at least one of the darn doors unlocked, and all my straps, jumper cables, gloves, winch accessories kept disappearing. Now, the push of one button and you're going to have to at least break the glass to get my stuff.

I ordered the Power Convience Group cause the stupid salesmen I talked to said it was the only way to get the Sentry Key. But I admit I do like the power windows and keyless entry.
What I would much rather have had was automatic (but defeatable) headlamps. Specifically the turning off part should be automatic.

This might sound stupid but, does the new JK come with a ringer or sound that lets you know you left your lights on after you have turned off your JK. I own a YJ Sahara and I have only done this once. I would think it would have it since most new vehicles have something of the nature.

I love having the remote keys. Hands in pocket ulock doors. 50 outside heater on high, beanie on and all windows down. When I pull up to BK all windows go up, doors get locked.:yup: And I'm in charge of who sits in the back seat windows position. I love control over that. I must get that from my dad.:sad2: Oh and I forgot the best. Beer in hand , knee steering, one hand scrolling radio while simultaneously hitting the one click window down button. Now thats what I paid 800 dollars for.

Must have different laws around there regarding open containers.
