Ok so Ive gathered that if we opt for the half doors, then we can only get the soft top... but why? I havent heard a good explanation... Will they be addressing this? will aftermarket manufacturers make tops to fit the half door model? whats the buzz....

It seems to me that would be an odd combination. I dont recall jeep offering anything like that on previous models. I've seen full hard doors with a soft top offered as an upgrade, but not hard top and soft doors. I think that the remaining door would not be tall enough to hold the glass for windows. That means zipper windows on a hard top. Surely bestop will do thier sliding glass doors as offered in the past.

I went through the same decisions when I ordered my Rubicon Unlimited. I love the look of the top down with half doors, but live where we get snow, and will want to keep a hard top on during the winter months, and the soft top in the summer months.
I'm hoping someone (Bestop?) comes out with a top half to be used with half doors that seals well to a hard top. If this happens, I'll probably buy a full set of half top doors from good ol' DC, then use full doors in the winter, and the half doors in the summer.

I ordered both tops and intend to order the half doors after the fact. I'll use full doors/hardtop when security(vacation) or weather is an issue. And I'll use half doors/safari in fair weather around town(beach).
I used to have upper door inserts for my YJ Sahara half doors.
Made by Steel Horse I believe. They sealed pretty well
to a hardtop that I had also added. Rigidity of the fiberglass
was somewhat of an issue preventing complete sealing and
security.
They looked good also(w/sliding glass windows).
I'm sure someone will create a similar insert for JK
half doors. Only it should be made of steel.
Then there would be no need for two types of doors.
Just a dual-function half/full door.

The soft top that comes with the half doors (at least on the Unlimited) is the same soft top that comes with hard doors, so I think that the soft doors will fit a hard top.

Great point there. Glad somebody noticed that besides me. Maybe Donavee will try it out and let us know, if he's listening.
