Nice! I do have a love for weapons, but my Jeep habit hasn't allowed enough funds for any recent perchases. I've owned a few AK's over the years and always wanted an AR of some typre, but never got one.

Currently I only have a few that I uwse for hunting.

---.35 Marlin lever action (Gift from my Granddad when I was 15)

---.243 Rem. that my Dad just gave me, don't know much about it. Shoots sweet though.

---Several old shotguns that are family heirlooms, nothing special or of much $$ value, just sentimental.

I don't know if this will work but I have a short video of "Big Birtha" at work in the hands of the Canadian Sniper teams in Taliban country (longest confirmed sniper kills) Here is the email i got with the video

Subject: Canadian Snipers in Afghanistan

Afghanistan.. These video shots are not made through the shooter's telescopic sight... they are made looking through the spotter's scope. The spotter lies right next to the sniper and helps the sniper to find and home in on the target.

The sniper is using a 50 calibre rifle. A 50 cal. round is about 7-8 inches long and the casing is about an inch in diameter. The bullet itself is one-half inch in diameter and roughly one and one-half inches long.

Pay close attention to the beginning of the video. A Taliban is laying on top of the peak in front of you... when you hear the shot fired.... watch what happens. The sniper is also about a half mile away... or more.

A Canadian sniper in Afghanistan has been confirmed as hitting an enemy soldier at a range of 2,310 meters, the longest recorded and confirmed sniper shot in history. The previous record of 2,250 meters was set by US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock in Vietnam in 1967. The Canadian sniper was at an altitude of 8,500 feet and the target, across a valley, was at 9,000 feet. Canadian sniper units often operated in support of US infantry units, which were grateful for their help. The record lasted only one day, until a second Canadian sniper hit an enemy soldier at 2,400 meters (8000 feet).

The Canadian snipers fire special .50-calibre McMillan tactical rifles, which are bolt-action weapons with five-round magazines. The Canadian snipers were the only Canadian troops operating without helmets or flak jackets as they had too much other equipment to carry. Each three-man team has one sniper rifle, three standard rifles (Canadian C7s), one of them with a 203mm grenade launcher.

OLD GUNS!!!

lol here are a few handguns that my dad left me.

The one on top is a replica, granted a really old replica. The one on the bottom is a original Colt Navy carried by a member of the union army. And the original holster which I have been told is worth 3 times what the gun is worth. Doesn't matter tho cause I will never sell them. :)

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j77/tevincent/DSCN1115.jpg

My Dad at one time sold guns and recieved these as company gifts for promotions. This is a signiture series stainless ruger .22, numbers 1 of 5000. Never been fired.

Another gift he recieved, 125th aniversay edition smith and weston .45
Also never been fired.

Thought id share these, I havn't purchased any guns on my own yet. I would like to have a colt 1911 tho. Still shopping I guess :D .

Nice!

I'm planning to start CCW classes with my wife eventually. One day out of the blue she said she wanted to get a gun. I told her she had to go through safety and self defense classes to have one. She agreed and so now we're planning to get started in classes together. I'm probably going to start her with either an XD 45 or Kahr 9mm

I have real world experience with Springfield's XD series:naw:

Specifically the following: The blue wears off way too easily, the recoil rod protrudes from the front of the slide, instead of being flush. I don't recall it being that way when it was issued to me, but mine is not the only one with that condition. There are some very weird wear marks on the recoil rod. If you insert the magazine with too much force (such as you might tend to do if you fire all your rounds and have to change magazines under stress) the rounds will reseat or something goofy in the magazine and it will not feed. Tap/rack malfunction drills will not correct this and you have to drop the magazine and rack the slide. It is like the slide gets stuck in mid-battery with the round partially fed, but it is not hung on the feedramp. It is not a feedramp issue. If you limp wrist at all the XD will stove pipe and you are out of the fight again. Most autos will stovepipe, but the XD seems especially prone to it.

The armorer hates them. Most of my co-workers hate them as well.

Do your homework before you buy an XD
Go with the Kahr... Just my $.02

Remington 870 Express 18" Tactical..

She said she doesn't like the pistols I have and felt more comfortable with shooting a shotgun in the house if someone breaks in.. :D

I've got that exact gun.. its an awesome all-around shooter. Getting a sling for it with the shot extension was a hassle.

question though... the wife got YOU a shotgun that SHE wants to shoot. Sounds like she got herself a shotgun ;)

Still working on my collection, but so far:
1991A1 Colt .45 (added new trigger group and internals)
P85 MkII Ruger 9mm
P380 Kel-Tec (best pocket gun I've found out there)
Mossberg 500 Tactical Shotgun

Next purchase is either a Springfield XD .45 or an HK USP Tactical .45. Or maybe both.

i just got me a Kel-Tec P3AT. those little things do make a nice pocket gun. i'm still not that confident in it's reliablity but i plan to shoot several hundred to FMJ to break it in before i give up on it. if that doesn't work out then i'm giong with the Ruger LCP.

I'm tellin' ya, that Kel-Tec P3AT is one of the best gun purchases I made. It's great to be able to put the pistol damn near anywhere - I've even put it in my shirt pocket before just to see if you can tell it's there. And it's nice to have a the power of a .380 behind it, not just a little .32 or .25. You definitely won't win any marskmanship awards with it though!

Right now I just have a Mossberg 500 Persuader and a semi auto Browning Buckmaster 22.

My next 2 guns will be the Magpul Masada (now the Bushmaster ACR) and whatever semi auto I finally decide to go with for concealment.

I was thinking the Kel Tec .380 but am really trying to figure out what I can get that will still be easy to conceal but a bit more accurate. If anyone has any thoughts let me know.

rednblack500
03-27-2008, 07:16 PM
How accurate do you want? The reason I ask is because most times you will need to use your gun in self defense, you're going to be within 10 ft of the person. Almost any gun is accurate at that range (though I've shot some that weren't!). It really comes down to comfort. I carried a Colt .45 for years - I was very accurate with it, but it was a big, heavy gun and harder to conceal (I'm 6'4, 230 and it was difficult even with an IWB holster). That's why I like the Kel-Tec so much - light weight, tiny and packs one hellofa punch. But it's definitely not made for target shooting!

chainboy1
03-27-2008, 07:21 PM
I know it won't be to accurate, but I would like to be able to hit something at 25 ft if need be. I have done a little research and now am thinking between the Kel Tec .380 or the S&W Airweight .38. I like s/a's but I like the reliability of a revolver.

Why, why why why why why why why why would you even have your finger inside the trigger guard?????????????

This is a great point. My dad and I have this conversation all the time... but it is usually him with that bad habit. He is a professional but has a really bad habit of doing that... but at least he knows. I am usually very much a stickler for keeping my finger in register unless firing, but it looks like I am busted here. :dontknow2: If it makes you feel any better the bolt was locked back!

I have been looking at the Bersa Thunder 380.. Very compact, light, and very accurate up to 30ft.. I have 2 buddies of mine that have them... You can put it in your back pocket with out a problem... It looks a lot like a Walther PPK but for half the price.. And it won't do the side bite like a Walther does either..

My father-in-law bought one last summer... nice little gun too. Having said that, for this cat I would recommend the P-3AT from Kel-Tec, light weight, built in belt clip, and .380!

I have been looking at the Bersa Thunder 380.. Very compact, light, and very accurate up to 30ft.. I have 2 buddies of mine that have them... You can put it in your back pocket with out a problem... It looks a lot like a Walther PPK but for half the price.. And it won't do the side bite like a Walther does either..

yo benmar, i have the bersa 380 and can tell you first hand that it is an awesome little gun for the money (less than $250). 380 ammo isn't all that cheap but what a great buy.

make sure you check out the bersa 380 CC version. it is a little different in that is had more rounded corners and a little slimmer. perfect for concealed carry. which i guess is why they call it the CC version.

That kind of reminds me of the new Rugar LCP...

haha, yeah go check out the kel-tec forums. everyone is up in arms about how they think ruger copied kel-tec.

Just checked out the Bersa .380 CC online and it is almost 3 times the weight of the Kel Tec. I think I will stick with the Kel Tec and the S&W Airweight. I think I am getting the S&W for now.

First I have to make the decision, does my stimulus check to that or towards the Bushmaster ACR (Magpul Masada)?

I definitely like the reliability of a revolver, but it makes it very tough to conceal. You're really stuck with an ankle holster or an IWB - they don't fit in the pocket too well. Ankle holsters are ok - I wear one when I have my boots on - but it's damn near impossible to get it out with any speed. Just something to consider. Also, reloading with a new clip is 10x faster than reload a revolver unless you want to carry around a speed loader.

The S&W 642 is light, hammer is concealed, and in the pocket, with a Don Hume pocket holster, you don't even know the gun is their...drawing out of the front or rear pockets of jeans is a snap...cargo pockets not an issue either

I agree they did a great job streamlining it as much as possible - light, hammerless, rounded edges, etc. But it's still thick - you just can't make a revolver as thin as a semi-auto. But I'm also a big advocate of shoot what you're comfortable with (to an extent)! And no matter how many revolvers I shoot, I'm just not as comfortable carrying and concealing a revolver as I am with a semi-auto, even though they take more work to maintain.

Well I decided what I wanted for CC and went and go it today. Here is my new Kel-Tec PF-9. I ended up getting the display model because it's the last one they had and in the process I lucked out. Some of the Kel-Tecs on display had laser sights on them just for show. Well I gues mine had it at one time and for whatever reason they took them off and dropped it in the box. Anyways I ended up laser sights for free. I put it on as soon as I got home. I guess when he got the box and put the gun in he didn't notice. Needless to say this makes me even happier with my purchase.

I got this unexpectedly last week, and at a great price...
I bought it as a practice match to my carry 380, but it's so perfect, I'm slow to blast away!

these are pretty nice little guns. you might run into issues with the mag release button being very touchy. you can get metal catches on ktog.org that solve the problem.

i'd run FMJ through it to break it in, then try HPs.

I am somewhat new to guns (in the civilian world anyways, army vet here) and as such I asked the guy what he suggested for ammo. I ended up getting 115 GR. UMC from Remington, and Federal Premium 124 GR. Hydra-Shok JHP for self defense.

those should work fine. i'd make a trip up to academy and get a bunch of the cheap monarch and blazer ammo for practice though.

You win, man. I wish full auto was an option here in the People's Republik of New York. Getting your pistol permit here requires many hoops jumped through, and we have our own Assault Weapons Ban.

I *AM* eagerly anticipating the Bushie/Magpul ACR come release this summer. =)

The Bushmaster ACR is my next gun.

How do you go about getting the liscense for full auto anyways?

It costs 200 bucks per Class III device. You have to fill out your Federal Form 4 for each of them, it is not just an open ended license to own machine guns. You have to get your FBI Background checks and the signature of the high law enforcement officer for your area (Sheriff, Police Chief, etc). Your class III dealer will be able to help you get what you need to fullfill the requirements.

Here are the Class III Allowances by state:
KEY
MG - machine gun
SI - sound suppressor (silencer)
SR - short barreled rifle
SG - short shotgun
AOW - any other weapon
LBDD - large bore destructive device
EXPDD - explosive, incendiary or poison gas destructive device

Expensive to buy too... when my dad bought that M-16 back in 1992, he had $1,500 invested in it. It is now worth $15,000! Not a cheap hobby.

you have a gun shop or just collect? btw I like your tastes... the five-seven is one of the nicest shooting pistols i have shot. safety is a little awkward for me though. but all fmj is armor piercing isnt it?
