What had Chrysler done to the Liberty. it is butt ugly! I don't think Jeep has any good designer in house. The commander, the Compass now the Liberty... they are the ugliest Cars around. Up there with cars from the Korean SyangYong and the Subaru Tribecta.
The only good design out of Jeep recently is the JK. I hope they don't ruin the Grand Cherokee when it is time to have a new face. Even the JK packaging is very poor. (I have a 2 door JK - so i know). It is better than the old TJ but could have been alot better.
If these ugly designed cars continues from Jeep. Jeep will sell less and less cars and one day, it will die.... which will be ashamed.
I hope every Jeep lovers out there make their point with the dealers and the dealers pass on to the HQ. Chrysler should get better designer and design good looking cars again.
That's my thoughts. May be others think differently but if you agree, please tell the dealers.

To each his own. I hate the commander, but I love the new liberty. I think that style fits on a smaller body much better. The 07 libertys looked like a CRV piece of crap..so I liked the change.
Also, if you don't like the design - don't bother telling the dealers - they can't do anything. That's where you want to actually tell DCX.

That would have been awesome to have my jeep delivered in a huge full color box with the clear window so I could tear into and drive out:D
Be my luck those twisty things would be on the axles and take forever to get them undone:crazyeyes:

We like the new Liberty also, at least the "Limited" model. To me it just looks better with those 18" wheels than the little 16"s. We've got an '06 KJ, and so far have loved it....even being just 2wd, it's gone many places and has impressed me. Maybe in a couple years, we might replace the KJ with the new KK....it's not butt ugly to me.

Liberty is a Dodge Nitro..... :naw:

Is the 07 Nitro/08 Liberty based on the 07 Liberty in any way or is it a new platform entirely?
If so it seems like a strange evolution.
07 Liberty -> 07 Nitro -> 08 Liberty
It's like moving backwards, and then moving forwards again. But if the 07 Nitro was an offshoot of the 08 Liberty wouldn't that case a tear in the space time continum and thereby destroying the universe?

It's not an entirely new platform, but alot of it is different from the '07's....from the way I understand it, the Nitro underneath is basically an '07 Liberty (with a better engine option)....and the '08 Liberty shares much of the same stuff but is actually a little different underneath the skin.
So if this is the case, it would go something like this:
'07 Liberty > '07 Liberty disguised as a Nitro > '08 Liberty with some changes that make it a little different than the other two.
I could be wrong, and I'm waiting on a reply from a guy who I know can correctly answer this question so I'll get back to ya when I get some more info.

we went to the jeep store to buy a commander... then got sidetracked when I saw that you could buy a JK unlimited for less than 30K. Then got sidetracked again when I started looking at the new liberty... well, decision time left us with the JK. I would have hapily wound up with any of the others though.

I like the ook better than the '07 for sure. I think they took the body design from the Nitro.

The looks are actually not that bad on the outside, it's the interior I don't like. The shifter on the six speed looks funny sticking straight up without a real shifter boot. And then there is the plastic......
The sky slider is simply an awesome idea, something simular on a couple of other Jeep models would be cool but unlikely. Hybrid Hard/Soft top for the JK anyone?

OK, UPDATE....
Quote from a friend:
Yea, both the Nitro and the KK are based off the KJ. The nitro has a different rear suspension, different body panels(obvious), different interior(obvious) and a slightly longer wheel base(I think). And if I had to guess the front suspension is alittle different. Ive not seen both in person but I know the springs would be different at the least. It probably rides alittle better than the KK.
I wouldnt say the KK is based off the Nitro but rather the KK and the Nitro branched off the KJ.
Many people think the Nitro and the KK are the same thing but they are mostly wrong. They are on the same platform but are totally different everywhere else. An excursion and a ford truck could share the same frame, but that doesnt mean they are the same vehicle by all means.

Word. The Nitro is a pointless vehicle like the Compass. At least the Patriot is a more interesting variation of the Caliber.
Chrysler should slim down to just the Ram trucks, Caliber, Patriot, Grand Caravan, Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Avenger, 300, and the Wranglers. Problem solved.
Oh and either turn the Dakota into the Gladiator or make the JT.

When the first Liberty came out I didnt like it. Then in 05 they changed the Grille on the Renegade to look more like a TJ. What a differance. I bought it. Nice SUV. But I had to back to a Wrangler.

Here's my KJ...my wife drives it now. I wouldn't want a KK for myself, but maybe for my wife eventually.

My wife has a new '08 Liberty. Sweet ride IMHO. Hers is loaded with everything except the goofy canvas roof deal. She ordered it, and had it in 3 weeks. The Mygig is pretty sweet, with all of the functionality. (U-connect and VR not blocked.) :naw:
She had an '03 before, and the new one is a much better rig.
As for offroad....get a JK.:yup:

The Liberty looks decent enough to me (that "Sky Slider" roof reminds me of something out of "Star Trek.")
I'm guessing the Liberty will stick around a while yet, I'm thinking the Compass and maybe even the Commander are heading to the chopping block in the next couple of years (according to rumors in the most recent issue of "Petersen's 4WOR").
DCX could have done worse...the new Liberty could have ended up looking something like a Pontiac Aztek :puke:
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

The only thing I'm not so sold on is the front end ... Either go with round style headlights or go with square ones a la the Jeep Cherokee's boxy style. It's almost like they tried to bring square back, but the surrounds inside are round. I think the rest of the vehicle looks good.

My wife used to drive a KJ Renegade, we still miss it. The new one is a dodge nitro with a Jeep stamp on it.

I don't mind the new Liberty. My fiance has an '06 and it's a great, relatively fuel efficient SUV. It's good on the highway, offers a true 4x4 drivetrain, and when we moved last year I was shocked how much stuff you can cram in it. It serves it's purpose well.

When my JK was in the shop for the Engine light problem the dealer gave me a 08 liberty for a rental. It actually seemed ok,the wife liked it.Seemed like it had more power than my jeep.

I think the Liberty is just "Okay" - I feel like the XJ and ZJ and WJ were the best looking as far as full-size Jeeps go ... They had more character.
I didn't like the WJ when it came out in 1999 - I thought it was "too rounded" - now I see it and I still think I like it better than the current WK models.
The XJ is still my perennial favorite. Timeless and classic - boxy never goes out of style in my opinion. That's why I drive a Wrangler - still boxy, if maybe a little more rounded with the JKs.
I like the styling of the TJ the best - classic Wrangler lines, but I like the JK's interior layout better, despite the crappy interior plastic.
