Hey everyone, I know this isn't rocket science or anything that big of a deal, but i thought i would share it with you guys anyway. i assume many of you have run into the problem i have with the tight footwells... especially with the clutch. anytime i'm wearing boots, and i let the clutch up, my big feet smack into something under the dash and on top of being really annoying, i've already ruined my new leather boots! So today, i did somthing about it. I found out that what my foot was running into is the OBDII plug... if that thing only stuck out of the dash a few inches higher, it wouldn't be a problem. but instead it hangs down from under it as in the picture below.

so to fix the issue, i pulled the OBDII plug out of the metal bracket (mine pulled right out since kicking it for two months broke the clips of the end of it that held it tight in place) and zip tied it out of the way. Then i smacked the remaining bracket with a hammer until it was up and out of the way. And now, my big boots NEVER hit anything, and while the footwell is still not the same as what it was on my old TJ... it's issue free, and i'm really happy with it.. Plus, i wont be ruining any more boots. heres the finished product.

I thought about cutting the bracket off completely, but there is really no need, and this way, if for any reason i ever want to put it back, it will only take a few minutes with a pair of plyers to straighten it back out. Good luck.

cool, anyone see if there's anything behind that plastic bulge to the left of the clutch? that seems like it takes up room too!

My tj just had metal.

Good idea! I thought I was the only one that thought the front drivers footwell seemed cramped.

The areas that I notice the most are:

--The transmission tunnel seems to be pretty wide.
--the gap between the driver's seat and the front of the door frame is pretty small. Makes getting in and out a little tough.

Overall, there seems to be more room though, and it's more comfortable to drive.

I used duct tape to do the same thing, but I like your method better. I will do the mod this week.

Thanks.

Go for it, rip it out, i can't even begin to tell you what a difference just that little bit of clearance makes.

Still putting your shoes on the wrong foot. Have an adult put a big R and L on them. It will help to also right the same thing on your foot.:rotflmao1:

Just Kidding!

How big is your foot? I wear size 16 shoes... I'm hoping I dont have a problem with it..

The shoes i usually wear are a 13 and they are a big thick soled steel toe boot. Its not the length or width of the shoe that was as issue, rather the hieght catching on it. And the Fix is totally reversible if you're not happy with it, so give it a try...

Yea.. when I get a JK I will. :) I was just a little worried as I havent been able to test drive a Jeep yet, and I'm about to put everything I have into buying one.. wanted to make sure I was going to be able to fit my feet in it. Haha.
