I know this has been covered before, and I have even seen the thread. I just can't find it because "CB" is too short to search and it won't let me wildcard it either. I wanted to see a picture of a CB mounted on the top of the dashboard on the center console. Also, if anyone knows how expensive the center plastic thing is on top of the dash, so that If I decide to take out the cb I can get one without holes drilled into it.

The replacement top piece was about $12 when I picked one up back in June.

One thing to think about. That top piece is only held on with two clips on the back side of it. Any type of crash could potentially send a CB on a deadly course.

It kind of reminds me of the days when people used to drive their 80's cutlass / monte's with 6x9's sitting in the back window 'cause they wouldn't fit where the factory 4x10 ones were.

The link Jack posted is of my set-up and I couldn't be happier with the mount.

Like Hip said the plastic top is a 12 dollar replacement so if you decide to move it no worries there. Also mounting it there made the wiring very easy to run and conceal.

As for it popping off in a crash I guess it could happen but its not going to go far.

Yup, I mounted mine like this. I really didn't like the idea of mounting it up next to the mirror like a lot of folks were doing. Just wasn't for me. And the top plate is cheap if you ever change your mind. I am sure that it is a heck of a lot cheaper than trying to replace the panel that you would drill into to mount it above the mirror.

Yeah I think I'm going to mount it on the dashboard. Easy to reach the controls, and the part is cheap enough.

This is where I put mine. It's real easy to slip out when I'm not using it. I've only bumped my leg on it once, and that was because I had an armful of stuff to put on the passenger side.

I had one mounted like that, except on the other side of the tranny tunnel. I'd swap it to the other side if I were you. That way everything isn't upside down while looking at it, and it will never be in your way. Plus it gives you the option of using one of the cool tech type mounts for the mic and the cable can just hang down and not cross over in front of the center stack. Shouldn't take you 20 minutes to move it since it's already there.

Looks like the radio has the bracket to the normal up side of the radio so it shouldn't be upside down when looking at. Plus his speaker isn't going to be muffled by the tranny tunnel/console and should be easier to hear cruising with windows down, top down, doors off, etc...

Yeah, I'd just woke up and wasn't thinking clearly. Fipping the cb around in it's mount would certainly do the same thing.

I currently have mine mounted on the lower portion under the glove box (for now) just because when I go off raoding I'm always with somebody and I'm usually only on one channel so there isn't a need to change any of the settings. But I currently purchased the tuffy overhead console, just waiting for it to come in and installe. I'll be posting pictures as soon as it's all done.

I put mine on the passenger side (like hip2u77) and wired it to the cigarette liter. Dont forget to mount it as far forward as you can to accomodate the pax seat moving up. If you go with the passengger side make sure it's up high enough so you can see the freq window easily.I put the mic on the RH side of the center panel under the Ham mic. Ive got a Ham rig on the top of the center panel so I had to think of somewwhere else for the CB. Hadn't thought of the crash factor but it's too late now. I think if I hit something hard enough to rip the top panel out, that will be the least of my worries.Check out Dirtyparts.com for some very neat mike holders that attach with doublesided tape. If you're mounting mikes on the side on the center panel I suggest you angle them towards the rear at about a 30 degree angle. It''s easier to replace the mike into the holder without having to look for it and deffinately easier at nite.
