Another newbie question here. Is the Trac-Lok limited slip defferential a worthwhile option? This will be our first wrangler and (off roaders cover your ears) will admittedly be a 90% suburban family driver. We would love to start doing some light off roading for weekend fun, but it is not our primary use. We just always loved the wranglers, and now with the 4 door our family can enjoy one.

Given that mission, is the Trac-Lok an option we should get? What does it do for performance in rain, light snow, slippery road conditions. Does it add unneccesary maitenance issues? Is it something the more serious off roaders want or need?

Thanks for any info!

The Trac-Loc is a standard limited slip differential that performs okay on the trail but is better than having a completely open differential in the rear. On road, it's pretty much invisible and the only time it may give you grief is in slippery icy road conditions. However, the ESP that comes standard on all JK's should keep that from ever becoming an issue. So, for your purposes, yes, I would opt for one :)

Get it! It should be illegal to have a jeep without it. Even if YOU dont ever use it, think about the poor schlub who gets it used years from now wondering what you were thinking not ordering it.

Dont be cheap...its a jeep!!!:D

Far cheaper to get it as an option than buy one and have it installed later.

I have it and don't notice any adverse affect on the road. Off road its great.

It's $295. Almost everyone who actually ventures offroad ends up on more and more interesting trails. I can't believe its not standard equipment.

I thought they were standard in 08s?

Excellent little piece of equipment, it's perfect for the way you will be using your JK. :yup:

I got it in mine, it was one of my "Must haves" and not so much for any benefit offroad or anything liek that, its just that I CANNOT stand having one tire spin if I am pulling out in the rain, or going around a turn. Its just a pet peeve, so yes, I pais $295 to not have that happen on the rare occasion that it would. Get it, you ahrdly notice it, but its nice to have if you do need it.

PS I remember my 89 Wrangler with open rear, once I buried it up to the door in the mud, and even in 4 wheel lo, the only thing that was spinning was one backk tire, and one front tire. NEVER AGAIN, with the mud, AND the one tire thing
