Are there any other companies other than the one in MN doing this? I realize they are probably the best, but that price is steep (You can buy a 6.1 with a whole SRT8 wrapped around it for 38 new). I also in North West so MN is going to cost a few G's to have the JK trucked there, and another few to have it trucked back... and I'm not driving it that far... the 37's and 2,500 miles would drive me nuts.

I found a web site www 4 wheel supply com that has radiator, wiring harness, computer, headers, powersteering hose, etc for a conversion... about 4K for all the parts. 5.7's are cheap, 6.1's are about 8-12K depending on how used they are.

There is a couple sponsors on here that do it, take a look at the sponsor section. Also, AEV Conversions is in the works now...take a look at them :yup:

Almost looks like this is getting close to being a DIY project with the amount of things that are available to make this conversion happen.

Only think I haven't noted are motor mounts? Could they be the same?

What tranny to use is another question.

Seth, Where are you located at? That will kind of determine what to do. While I agree that there is alot available to almost make it a DIY kit....it is not there yet. So I would be careful about that!!! :eek2:

I'm the Seattle area... I'm seeing that it is almost DIY, but I'm sure there is a lot of hidden "oh sh!t" stuff that we don't get to hear about...

That place in Vancouver sounds interesting!

That is probably your closest option...next closest is in Arizona :yup:

Was at Burnsville on monday having some extra lights installed. Dan knows his shit. He just got an order to ship a half dozen hemi jeeps to China. 4 wheeler magazine was there also. Future hummer project. He knows Hemi conversions.

Why is everyone so hung up on the hemi's? I understand its a jeep, but the hemi's really aren't worth the money(IMO). I mean 8-12k for a used 6.1? COME ON! Personally I think the 5.7 is gutless in the trucks and the 6.1 sure is fun in the SRT8, but still not worth 8-12k USED. If I really wanted to run a V8 I would definitely get a crate chevy. Save a bunch a money, and have 100 times the aftermarket for the motor.

The difference between a crate chevy and any of the motor conversions that Burnsville or AEV does it the fact that the wiring is just plug and play with some simple Starscan programming. All the guages and electronic systems function just like they would with the stock engine. A crate chevy wouldn't be a bad idea if you basically were going to gut the Jeep and replace all the wiring and guages. Check out http://www.offroadevolution.com/ to see a Caddy motor swap where they pretty much gut a stock JK.

They have done some conversions, but they are still working on perfecting all of their electronics for it, and testing them to make sure they last.

Jeeps have come with V8's in the past, but lets look at this from a different perspective....

I have 37's, heavy bumpers, winch, rock rails etc. My truck is heavy and I tow a tent trailer occasionally which albeit isn't that heavy (1200 lbs) it seems to be plenty for the JK to pull.

I want to upgrade the axles eventually (replace the 44's with 60's) and move to 40' tires, which will make this even heavier and slower.

Forget the Gasser's.......Let me know when a company slams in a 5.9L or 6.7L Cummin's Turbo Diesel in a JK then I will be VERY INTERESTED!

The HP, Torque and performance upgrades are endless on the CTD!

I would love to have a 5.7 Hemi in my Unlimited. The gutless one in my Charger RT hauls ass. The 6.1 would be nice, but not for 30 grand +!

I think when he wrote gutless he meant the 3.8L v6 that comes with the jeep. Christ my toyota had way more sack then the jeep. I think the 4.7L would be enough to make the difference but there is nobody in New England that would even attempt to do an engine swap. I'm having a hard time to find someone who will do re-gearing never mind the engine swap.

Would be nice to have a 6.1L in my JK....but The ULTIMATE RIG would have a 5.9 or 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel if you could squeeze one in and if the Frame can hold a 1100lb motor. The Cummin's would lay a beating on the 6.1L Hemi! Especially if you upgrade the turbo, add a stackable programer, larger exhaust...you could see a potential of +650HP and +900lb/ft of torque. If you want to get insane....add propane injection. Another advantage with the CTD would have the longer engine life and better fuel economy!

If I could have got my hands on one of the diesels they put in the grand cherokee .... i believe a 3.5..... I would have gone that route but way more expensive and difficult. the 6.1 has been an awesome option because the weight is only 40-50 lbs more than the stock mini-van motor and has uneffected the front suspension height. Overall all with all my other mods it's an ultimate rig for me. :yup:

I am panning your 6.1L SRT Hemi motor I would love to have one in my JK....they are no slouch on the road...and bullet proof. I still kick myself at times that I should have gotten the Magnum SRT8 over the my 5.7L Magnum R/T. However, at the time I thought 340HP was plenty for a family cruiser but I think now I would really like the extra 85HP at times!

I know my dream of a 5.9L CTD is almost unrealistic especially to squeeze into a JK as well the weight would kill the frame! Having upgraded my CTD on my RAM the power you can get out of them is just insane just by adding stackable performance chips or programmers, exhaust & bigger turbo, upgrading the torque converter.

I have an auto which needs the added power more than anything. I am one that prefers an auto offroad. I have pics of my build that I will be compiling in the next few days.

Other than the cool exhaust note and speed, what was there that a stock JK would not have done? I missed it.
