CoolTech just received our first production batch of "VersaMounts". The VersaMount lets you mount a CB Mic, iPod, MP3Player, Phone, GPS, etc in a convenient location right next to the radio and within easy reach of the driver. There is absolutely NO DRILLING or mods required to your JK. Complete step-by-step installation instructions are included.

Frankly I don't see what the big deal is, unless you were planning to produce/sell these on your own. Did you really intend to patent it? That's a pretty heavyweight process. A courtesy email would have been nice on the part of Cooltech, if they did in fact lift the idea directly, but not strictly required IMO (I'm not a lawyer :) ).
As someone unaffiliated with either you (Hooked) or Cooltech, my interpretation of your writeup was that it was a very clever homebrew mount -- I even said so at the time -- but not one that you intended to produce yourself for sale. I think both the idea and the production can be looked at as a service to the (extremely small) JK community, just hate to see a lot of animosity over it. Just my very insignificant opinion.

mmccurdy,
You are correct, I couldn't give a rats A$$. It is just the whole principle of the matter. I don't mind them selling the product to the mechanically impaired JK community. Exactly what percentage of this community is mechanically impaired.
Maybe just a simple PM saying "Hooked, really liked your idea, can we use it?". And I would have obliged.
I am off my soapbox. I have to get ready to go drive Jeeps in Mexico tomorrow.

Hey Hooked,
Perhaps I owe you an apology as I honestly didn't even think about contacting you and maybe in retrospect I should have. The reason I didn't is principally because I didn't think you had any intention of offering mounts to the community. Secondly, these mounts have been around a long, long time and there are several companies allegedly making a good dime selling them. Here's just one site offering a multitude of mounts for various vehicles. http://www.phonemerchants.com/specbrac.html
I'm sure that with the popularity of the JK, they'll be adding that to their portfolio soon (if they haven't already).
The reason I made one is to complement the antenna kit I'm already selling for the JK. With the antenna mount kit, I package the mount, antenna, cable and connectors all together. The reason is that for the majority of buyers, they will purchase all of these components anyway - so why not make it more convenient by allowing them to purchase them together. Same for the "VersaMount". For those that aren't inclined or who don't have the tools or time, I'd rather them buy from a fellow Jeeper than from someone like the site I referenced above.
In summary, I sincerely apologize if I stepped on your toes. It certainly wasn't my intention. I applaud your design and outcome - it looks great!

Scrap piece of metal: Free
Finding the design online from a forum buddy and building a device mount for yourself: Free
Time building mount yourself: 1.5hrs
Not spending 20 bucks online for a simple bent piece of metal with a couple of holes drilled in it: PRICELESS
The price for that is @#$!@#$ ridiculous. Hooked, your mount looks better anyway!

I bought an acrylic case ($9.99) for my Ipod classic, an aluminum cb mic button ($1.99). I epoxied the mic botton to the acrylic case and now I can clip my Ipod to the Cooltech brack mic holder. I'm sure you can do the same for the Nano. Let me know if you want to see pics and I will post up later.
