I am trying hard to wait for 2008. When will the changes for 2008 be announced? Detroit Autoshow? New York Autoshow? I am holding out as long as it takes for more motor options. I am hoping for the MB 3.0 Turbo CDR.

The 07's have just come out and most of us are still waiting for ours to be built and you want info on 08? LOL!!
Realistically, we probably won't be hearing anything until spring next year. As far as a diesel goes, it'll most likely depend on emission standards and what if anything changes here in the states.

The diesel engine that we would be getting here in the US is not the same one that is being exported to Europe.
Even though we have lowered the sulfer content of our fuel this fall, The new emisions standards for diesel in this country will be the stiffest in the world. That is why we can't get the new European JK diesel version here.
DC is working on a new engine with what they call "Blue Tech" technology.
You could do a web search on it and find out more info.
I would be surprised to see it out in '08, but there has been talk of that being a target date.
I'm a big fan of Diesel myself. I have a '02 VW Golf TDI, 50 mpg, that I commute with. I'd trade in my 07 JK (on order) in a heart beat to get one in diesel
Good Luck

Rumors and info trickle out during the sping and summer.
I doubt that any new engine will find its way into the JK for the next model year.
I think a V8 is unlikely (ever) because Jeep doesn't need to do that to make
the JK sell, and V8s are percieved as fuel inefficient.
I do think a diesel will be here for the 2009 model year. Part of the what
will make the diesel satisfy environmental extremist regulations is low
sulpher diesel fuel. It is my understanding that the new diesel will be
standard by 2009.

I don't understand why the CRD will work in the Liberty but not the Wrangler. Anybody able to explain this? I know Daimler Chrysler is blaming sulfur regulations, but that doesn't make any sense to me since GM, Ford, Dodge, Volkswagen, and Jeep all offer diesel engines in the U.S. I've been dreaming of a diesel Wrangler since my first YJ, and I'm getting a little impatient. I was very close to swapping a Cummings into my TJ until I realized the actual cost of doing that!

I have a video clip- which I spent the last 1/2 hour trying to attach:naw: - it's a fairly decent statement on why you might not wish to go with a diesel. If someone can figure out how to attach it I'll email to you then you can post it for the masses to view. Here's an idea Wayoflife could we start a video clip library of jeep video clips? It's an awesome site nonetheless.

I think he's got a point here. If I haven't gotten my Jeep by the January Detroit auto show, and they announce a V8 for the JK or a diesel, I'll be on the phone within minutes to tell my dealer I'm waiting for an 08', even if it takes 10-11 more months of waiting, a V8 is THAT important to me.

I am with you SpudRacer. My rig isn't scheduled to even be built until
January 31st at the earliest. If during the Detroit show, they announce a
diesel for 2008, I will cancel my order and wait, even if I lose my deposit.
That being said, I sincerely doubt we will see any new engine option
until the 2009 model year, and I won't wait that long.

Jeep is not offering the CRD in the 2007 Liberty and I don't think there are any Volkswagen diesels this year either. As for GM, Ford, & Dodge they are truck diesels so they fall under different emisions.

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't the JK a truck too?? It certainly isn't a car, and I wouldn't call it an SUV either.

are you trying to say that wranglers are percieved as fuel efficient and a V8 would give them a bad rap?:p

I think they classify it by gross vehicle weight? (Somewhere around 8000 lbs)

True the JK is registered as a truck. I guess I should have stated heavy duty truck, I may be wrong but I think the diesels are only in the 3/4 ton and up.

According to the CAFE standards for 2011 the Wrangler will have to get 28mpg, of course those numbers were based on the TJ so it might change a little with the longer wheel base of the JK. I just don’t think we will ever see a V8 in the JK, I just hope DC does not have to go to a 4cyl to meet the CAFE standards.
The new CAFE standards are based off of a vehicle weight and wheel length so the Wrangler got hammered because of the SWB. I did a quick search in Google but I could not find the chart that I got the 28mpg from.
