How does this thing work? It came stock on my Sahara and the manual is a bit less than clear to me.

It is supposed to some how give you an MPG estimate, but i can't figure out how to make it work, when i hit the button to get it to "MPG" it starts out around 16 and starts counting down 15.9, 15.8, 15.7 etc.

Anyone have a clue?

Jump out man it's going to explode!!!!!!!!:yup:

Okay here's the deal. It's average mpg. And very distracting for me I might add;)
The reason it's going down is you are pushing on the gas pedal. It seems to start from your last report. Mine was at 18 yesterday at the fill up. So I reset it. It starts at 18 then plummets as I leave the gas station & sit at a trafic signal. The longer its been averaging the mileage the less it will fluctuate. When first reset, it's practically a current gas mileage readout. It has really helped me get the lead out of my foot.:yup:
It also will show you the value of coasting to a red light instead of braking at the last minute.

Not sure if the Jeep is this way, but some cars have two MPG modes, one is an "instantaneous" fuel economy -- that's the one that will always fluctuate depending on whether you're pressing the gas at a given moment -- and an "average" fuel economy, which will fluctuate quickly after a reset, but settle in as the baseline gets longer.

Incidentally, the "instantaneous" economy is an average too, it just uses a moving baseline of 5 seconds or so, but when you see that thing drop to 6 MPG it's a good indication that you could be gentler on the throttle.

We only have the average mpg mode. I will say it seems to update more frequently than every five seconds. If not I've been spending too much time looking down at that readout:eek: Even with averaging, a fit of road rage in town still shown up after a quarter tank.:embarrased:
