I'm thinking about pickup up a 4DR Rubicon here in the new year so I thought I'd put out this question and get some feedback from all the new JK owners. What options did you wish you got but didn't and, vice-versa, are there any options that you did get but wish you didn't?

For example, when I bought my '03 Rubicon I got the stupid $50 smoker's package which was essentially a cup with a lid. That was a dumb option.

When I bought my '97 TJ I cheaped out on options and regretted it. This time I pretty much got every option on my Unlimited Rubicon JK except for the towing package (cause I've never needed to tow anything the last 10 years).

There aren't that many options on the Rubicon anyways, power windows and locks (love them), tinted windows (like the look), side airbags (if I ever get hit I'm sure I'll be happy I dropped the extra few hundred bucks), locking fuel cap (if prices stay high maybe it'll stop someone from stealing my fuel!), dual tops (must have for me in Canada) and then of course the 2 different radio options, 6 disc or nav (I went for 6 disc as the Nav wasn't available yet and I couldn't wait. Think I'll go with a portable nav anyway, couldn't see leaving the top off with it waiting to be stolen).

Only had mine a week and I love it.

I ordered a Rubicon with everything except the $30 engine block heater. I was tempted but let's face it,I live in So Cal. Bill, that seems like a good one for Canada. The smokers group was cheap and it gives you an extra 12volt outlet as well as a place to throw that change. Had to get the side air bags as I consider myself precious cargo. Actually thought of the kids and those VW Jetta commercials.

I hate wishing I had a feature later on that I could have gotten for a fraction of the cost up front. I admit though I have bought things in the past I didn't use much if at all. But that bothers me less than not having it and wishing I had gotten it.

I wish the brochure was accurate and that the Deep Tint really did come on all Freedom Tops, rather than being a $300 option. My dealer is still trying to get Jeep to replace my non-tinted top.

The more I've driven my JK, I'm soooo glad I got the 6-speed. Man I missed driving a stick.

I admit, I should have gotten the 4-door. I still don't care for the look of the extra doors, but the really made the rear seat access stupid difficult in the 2-door.

Locking fuel cap and power windows are great. It is so nice to have a fuel cap that is keyed the same as the vehicle, it makes just one less key to carry around. After years of having to lean over to unzip the window, the power is so nice and I have a 2dr, I image it is even better for the unlimited.

It's actually not even an option in Canada, it just comes with it. I'm not totally sure but I think in Canada all vehicles have to have it by law. My old TJ had it as well and so does my wife's '04 Grand Cherokee.

I think the seats leave a lot to be desired, and I'm too far along to change my order to eliminate the front seat air bags I added to the Rubicon. I can't get them re-covered, nor can I consider seat heaters. Basically I'm now stuck with the stock front seats.

I guess I could unplug the air bag wires, but I bet that would cause a fault code somewhere and affect something else. I'll look closely at the seats when it arrives to see just where those air bags pop out. Maybe I can at lest slip some heaters inside them without affecting the air bags.

Spudracer,

I think that you are able to change your order until it gets to D or D1 status if you are not already there. You may want to PM Don-A-Vee and find out but I remember a thread somewhere where somebody changed their order while it was in the early stages of the order.

4.10's would have been nice (but i bought the only one within 100 miles . . . . so at the time, i didn't wait)

tinted windows . . . .my brother's has them, and they look cool.

nothing i can't do later.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I went to "D" status last week, way too late to change my order unless I placed a new one. I did that once already to get Rescue Green instead of black. Doing it again would set me back months, I wouldn't see the JK until probably March. I can't wait THAT long...

Its weird to quote myself, I know. But I figured I'd add, I emailed an order today for a 4-door. Feb. is the estimated delivery date. :(

They all come with two 12v outlets. The smokers group adds a lighter to the driver side outlet and takes up a cupholder with a cup shaped ashtray. That's what I noticed between two Unlimiteds at the dealer, anyway.

I'd tell everyone to get every option you could. I bought a Sahara 4dr and kinda wish they'd had a rubicon at the time because I would've bought a rubi. But I have a tricked out CJ7 for serious wheelin'. I just think you should get every option available cause it'll help you down the road at resale time when you want the new Wrangler with a V-8 hemi. :yup:

Agree w/ the above post. My X is optioned fairly close to a Sahara, less the stereo.

I'm glad I have the 4.10 & 6 speed. Verry happy I have the Trac-loc LSD.

I wish I got the dual top vs just the freedom top. I'll prob buy one from Bestop next spring.

It's a tough choice when going wheelin'

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope my order STAYS in "D" status for the next 5-6 weeks until the Detroit Auto show. If they put a Hemi in the 08' JK, I will never forgive myself for not waiting. If I found out there was going to be a hemi in the 08' as I was driving to the dealer to pick up my new JK, I would turn back in an instant.

Skip the factory floor mats...they are about as thick as a sheet of paper save the money and buy some after market molded mats.

Tom....It's pretty easy to defeat the airbag light. You just plug in a 4.7ohm resistor across the contacts in the plug, the car sees the expected resistance and the light stays out. I did this in my Audi when I swapped out the airbag seats....Thats the Audi plug in the photo BTW

I'm getting a Sahara with just about every option except
smoking, floormats, and MyGig.

I wish I'd have got the Rubicon for future use when my kids
are gone and it's really play time. But maybe I can modify
it later to lockers and sway bar disconnect.
I did get the 4.10 and Dana 44 rear LSD.

And not having half-doors to switch out is aggravating
for now. I'm thinking the Bestop Element doors will
be acceptable and cheaper substitutes.

I am glad I have black, a Sahara, side steps (saved the door panels and help the kids), dual tops, Sirius radio and 18 inch wheels and infinity.

Havent missed limited slip or 6 disc changer for my use.

Wish I had gotten a 6 speed, although the automatic seems to be pretty nice and doesnt detract too much from the fun.

I wish:
I got a Sahara on account of the same color fenders
I wouldn't have got tow package. Aftermarket bumper is going to have a receiver anyways.
I wish I would have made a deal on a 2dr.

I learned that Jeeps are like kids. You love them all the same no matter what.
I am going to by a 2dr Rubi for my wife!!!!!

If you buy the bestop soft top, I guess you need some hardware from dealer to do this correct? Haven't seen any soft tops in town so I haven't seen one.

Two options I would not bother ordering are the carpeted floor mats for $50 and the locking gas cap. I bought the Mopar floormats made of thick rubber and with the tire track through them $42 for the 2 door and $69 for the 4 dr. I just bought the fronts, but these are what I wanted an the cheap carpet mats are useless. Also the locking gas cap seemed like a good idea, but you have to unlock it with the ignition key everytime. IMHO this cuts down on the usefullness of this option. On my volkswagen I can ethier set it to say unlocked or choose to lock it and this works our much better for me. Just my $.02.....................:)
