View Full Version : PRESS RELEASE - Off Road Evolution C2 Front Axle Reinforcement Gussets

As some of you may know, the C on the passenger side front axle of my JK has bent over time thanks to running bigger tires and playing hard on the rocks. In fact, this bend is significant enough that you could see a visible amount of camber to the wheel. of course, i know there are plenty of you out there who have the same problem and more still who'd like to prevent this from happening in the first place and thanks to Off Road Evolution, you now can with these...
http://project-jk.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=75423 (http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-ups/off-road-evolution-jeep-jk-wrangler-c2-front-axle-reinforcement-gussets)
Available for only $89, the all new Off Road Evolution C2 Front Axle Reinforcement Gussets are made out of 3/16" laser cut, CNC bent steel and designed to seriously beef up your Jeep JK Wrangler’s front axle C’s. These gussets do require welding but any certified welder should be able to install these in about 2 hours or less and for a cost of about $200. If you already have a bent C, you might be able to correct them with a new offset ball joint and then adding these gussets will prevent any future bending.
If you would like to buy a set for your JK, they are available at:
Off Road Evolution (http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-AXLEGUSSETS)

I think that you would want to install these before they bend as a precausion. The caming ball joint is a fix to a already bent axle. Install now so that you dont have to worry about a bent axle in the future. This is my take...
exactly...
I sent ORE a pm and these last week after coming across these on their site, After seeing the pictures, I'll be ordering a set.

Looks like an awesome fix for a problem I didn't know existed until I went to sell my D30. The people that are interested are guys who have bent their axles. Yikes.
1. Are there any rubber seals in the vacinity of the welds? would they have to be replaced after the weld?
2. It looks to be tig welded. Does anyone know for sure if it was tig welded or mig welded?

1. no, but you will need to be careful not to weld everything all at once as too much heat can pull the C's and can compromise the grease in your ball joints. read the write-up for more details.
2. this was mig welded. :yup:

how likely are they to bend if not wheeled hard or wheeled hard in mud? central florida isnt the rockiest place to wheel, we just get dirty.

The two guys that I mentioned in an earlier post looking to buy my Dana 30 both were jumping their Jeeps at Pismo Beach. Now I know THAT sounds like a good time but I doubt the average Jeeper is landing 5000 lbs from 4 foot in the air on a routine basis. I think the stock axles (esp the D44) are more than tough enough for the average Jeep owner and even for guys that are running hard trails but that's way way different than jumping. That being said, these brackets are fairly inexpensive. For that reason I will be buying a set.

We appreciate the efforts as well obviously. Now can you go off and build some diff/tube trusses? :D. I bet you guys would sell quite a few as a kit.
On a side note on these C2s I was talking to my friend who owns a local fab shop about these brackets, he couldn't figure out the need or why they would even bend unless your dune jumping, or slamming down hard enough rock-crawlin with huge tires, for the price I find it great insurance along with diff trusses which he's going to build on the front/rears of my D44s.

I sent an email to see if you ship the C2 and the lower control arm armor brackets to canada via USPS as UPS was nearly the same as the price of the C2s and then my brown guy fees at the border that really add double the cost to the order
please say that you do please
you have a great product
and i would love to show case it on my jeep

We have seen alot of them bend and with rigs running as small as 34s
This could be a combination of many things Like .
Rim offset/backspacing (moreThan stock)
Wheel spacers
Bigger tires (Than stock)
These all put more load on the axle Cs
Now add your loaded jeep 4 people and gear
moderate wheeling
or hitting a bump to fast
or the curb at at the gas station
And that is More than likely how it happens
On the Jks I have Not seen any axle housing Bend yet ,front or rear and I even was running 40s on the rear 44 for a while .
Thay are a lot stonger than the TJ axle .

Directly from evolutions web site
Check totals and proceed to process payment.
Total Goods: $124.98 Gussets 89.99 and Lower control arm skids 34.99
Shipping: $86.50
Grand Total: $211.48
and 60$ in UPS brokerage fees based on the 124.98 value (sometimes UPS really screw us over and bases it on the grand total including the shipping)
...for a total of $277.
Doesn't seem like that much of a deal once being Canadian and getting screwed over by UPS
US vendors would do a lot more business if they would drop UPS and start shipping USPS to canada.
Guess I will have to make my own.
Well I think you have a good product evolution
good luck with US sales.

Hi and thanx Lisa I sent you an email back
well the brokerage fee that UPS charges is to clear the item across the border and to be the middle man to collect the respective taxes for the government and in doing so they charge a fee (brokerage) for doing that
I'm not against paying my taxes but
the postal service (owned by government) collects the taxes and do not charge a fee
UPS to Canada
I buy item say 100$ pay shipping to me say 40$ UPS item hits border, Canada customs and border service agency says tax is due 12$ UPS fronts that money to clear the item,,,,then UPS charges 36$ for that service of fronting then they chagre tax on that service then the package clears and is enroute
so UPS guy shows up demands COD money for brokerage or i don't get the package. which now totals 55 or so dollars. $195
Postal service
I buy item 100$ pay shipping say 35 (slightly less and more slower) item gets to border clears border after Canada customs verifies what the tax is 12$ item clears and is on route... i get a notice in the mail box that i have a parcel and must go to the post office to collect it it also states amount due. which is the federal tax on the value of the parcel. no other fees $147
UPS is making a huge killing with cross border fees for brokerage currently there is a very large class action lawsuit against them here in Canada.
On ebay most sellers know about this brown guy unfairness and have switched to USPS for items to Canada
Some vendors put a lesser value cause items below 50$ don't pay any tax on them. I don't support this but it is a nice surprise some times they use wholesale value opposed to retail value.
generally i keep my ebaying to less that 50$
but i don't mind paying tax to my country it is the fee to the brown guys that erks me cause it is all done automatically with scanners and cameras not like someone touches it.
Oh we also enjoy having out items wrapped in news print from the vendors area flyers are interesting to compare prices.
cheers
And again thank you Mel and Lisa

Aren't the C's cast iron? Is so is there any issue with welding to them? Any cracking or pre-heating of the C's necessary? Cast isn't the easiest to weld to. I had a bear of a time welding to a 14B for another project... Pre-heated the pig, threw a blanket over it to slow the cooling. Looks like with wet rags you are accelerating the cooling of the c's to prevent damage to the grease and seals.
