ok so I know kilby is making two "skid plates" for the front of the JK that extend down beneath the front bumper, one for stock and one for those who want to remove the stock crossmember that hangs down below the frame rails. so my question is this what is that crossmember for ? is it just held in place by "straps" as it looks in the pics? what dose it do is it there to just hold that stock piece under the bumper in place?? I obviously don't have my JK yet but I'm going to be building my own bumpers (and stuff) so I'm trying to get a little heads up for the design/planing part of the bumpers. I just don't know if I totaly like most of the bumpers that I have seen made yet because they are all too "fat" looking for me I like my stuff all " high and tight ".....here are a couple pics from the gallery of what I'm talking about.
thanks
Danny

Yeah, that's about all it's being held up by and if I didn't know any better, the only purpose it really serves is to be a place for the plastic air dam to attach to. On the Rubicons, I suppose it offers a bit of protection to the swaybar disconnect motor too.

anyone have any pics of the rubi sway bar disco ? how far dose it hang below the actual sway bar ?
by the looks of how that crossmember is attached it's not going to protect very much...

yea it is.
is it the angle of the pic or is it actualy about as low as the top of the tie rod ?
I am not 100% sure, but I think that is an 8mph crush zone that is supposedly easy to replace

Yep, it hangs that low and so companies like PUREJEEP are making skids for it as well...

I wonder how much that air damn is responsible for the much quiter ride of the JK. It looks like something you throw on a vehicle to help in wind tunnel tests and not something you'ld put on for looks.

Looks like one of those skids is going to be a must have.

I swear I read it in the owner's manual, but maybe it was elsewhere. You are supposed to remove it for off road use, then replace it to regain mileage and noise reduction for on-road use.
My crossmember is welded on the frame horns. It doesnt hang down real low ,but could use stronger mods....sorry , only way i know how to send pics so far
