If this has been covered I missed it while searching.
Scratched my head for a while but came up with the most out of the way but readily available location for my 5BC rated dry chem. unit.
I only use the 'kitchen' type because from what I've been told, the dry chemical used is non-corrosive and easier to cleanup after use. Why worry? See what happens afterwards if you need to use the regular ones!
Don.t have the ability to post pics but I made a reverse template for the bracket bolt pattern from masking tape. Then lowered the seat to the lowest position then held the cylinder against the seat base on the driver's side. Marked where the tape should be and went to her. Three stainless bolt and done.

Up there in the 51st state? Quite a bit-a-ma-bob... how about a little more detailed of a description, then, when you have some free time? :D

Not quite high enough to kiss the fabric of the seatbottom, bolted directly to the seat riser below the adjustable fore to aft slide mech. Far enough forward not to interfere with foot entry.
The dims. of your own extinguisher will determine exact positioning.
Hopefully trial and error without the drilled error holes:thinking:

I think you mean like this:

I did something similar. Mine is not quite as accessable. I used 3M "Dual Lock". It's like industrial velcro. I'll report back if I have any problems with this fastener.

YUP you got her Woods. The first pic. is the orientation and location I used with an extinguisher about 3" longer I'd guess, which ends up with the bottom being pretty much in line with the slide mech front end.
I bolted through the seat base but if your velcro lets go the thing sure won't fall far.

i just put my chrome 2.5lb abc multipurpose in the storage compartment not that it would be big enough to put out a blazing jeep fire in the first place but might buy some time till the fire truck arrived:yup:

I keep a Fire extinguisher in every vehicle, but haven't got one in the Rubi yet. Still trying to find the right extinguisher, with a good strong base that will hold it tight. I also like to go with at LEAST a 2.5 pounder, the smaller 1 pounders won't last long at all in an engine fire. I would hate to almost get a fire out, then have it flare back up because the extinguisher ran out. I like the idea of one under the driver's seat, maybe one there, then a bigger one in the cargo area attached to the driver's roll bar. I just wish I could find a good roll bar mount for a bigger bottle.

California Car Cover Company has one in their catalog, it's a Moon extinguisher, but it's a sharp chrome job with a price tag to match. It'd likely get stolen LONG before you get/have to use it.

Anyone with better ideas or suggestions, I'm eager to hear em'.

Just an FYI, for what it's worth: I picked up a little extinguiser at Wallymart, and had every intention of mounting it under the seat as shown in this thread... but didn't have the right stuff (no good velcro, bracket that came with Wallymart extinguisher is, suprise!, not really good). What I did was to buy a couple "ball ties" (don't know what they're really called) and used those to affix the extinguiser against the cargo area driver side cage (the pillar that holds the rear drivers' side passenger's seatbelt). The ball ties are like oblong bungee loops with a rubber ball at one end - you buy em small, stretch em around the extinguiser to fit, then loop the bungee end over the ball end to hold it. I know, I should post picks or something. Anyhow, I'm mentioning this because it required no drilling or hardware of any kind, and I've had the extinguiser mounted for awhile now, have gone over some pretty rough terrain, and it hasn't moved a centimeter on the rollbar...

this is what my company does sell fire extinguishers & refill them but to pay over 200 dollars for a 2.5 chrome is pretty steep like u said. there are some brackets with those rubber ball stretchy strap things , they are heavy duty and will take the punishment you dish out and should stay in place. they are adjustable as well. so. here is what i would do if you don't really want to drill a hole in your roll bar is to pick up a couple metal bands with adjustment the kind used around pipes then put them around the extg. bracket & roll barhttps://onramp.heiserusa.com/docs/images/860AX.JPG

I know my description sucked pretty bad... here's a quick diagram showing what I'm talking about... basically, I'm using two (2) "ball ties" to hold the extinguiser in place. I got lucky, and the ones at Wallymart were the PERFECT size to wrap around the extinguiser and sport cage column, to hold the extinguiser firmly in place. Hope this picture helps explain:

Got mine attached to the roll bar in back using velcro. I am gonna get a bigger one though with a metal mounting bracket and then use zip ties to hold it to the bar.

Posted this in another fire extinquisher thread, but here's mine:

Here's my fire extinguisher install, completed today. Just used a couple of big, black hose clamps w/ some rubber strips to prevent them from slipping and cutting into the fabric covered rollbar pads. Uhh.. yeah, ignore the "needs recharge" indicator... I'm having them recharged next week. :D

I just added one today after this thread reminded me to get one. I needed a new one for the house too.

I used the plastic wall hanger that came with it, ran two heavy duty zip ties through the screw holes and secured the hanger to the cage. Then used the looped bungees to keep the extinguisher secure.

I just wanted to add that in my search for a way to mount a fire extinguisher and looking for Velcro straps that I came across a pretty decent selection of velcro straps at West Marine and Hudson Trail Outfitters. West Marine had these Velcro straps that were 2" wide with Velcro and they were stretchy like a bandage - they go by StrapEZ. The down side is the Velcro isn't along the length of the strap. So if it isn't about the right size it might not work when stretched around. Because I felt the fire extinguisher would get in the way of the soft top when putting up and down, I ended up just putting it in a bin I keep in the back.

That looks decent. I am curious, for those that mounted on the back roll bar, does it interfere with the soft top when put up and down? I wanted to mount on the roll bar but it looked like it would be in the way (I was too lazy to try).

I had this exact same idea to do when mine comes in. I'm going to mount it at the drivers seat, so when the door is open/off it will plend in some, but still be noticeble

Mine is mounted right beside the rear seat on the driver's side. It tucks into that space perfectly.

I just use double sided velcro in place of the plastic strap the holders come with. Easier to get on and off. Just cut to fit and it works great. And no this is not a Jeep, I'm still waiting for mine to come in.

I found these small chrome extiquisers on Ebay. They came with quick release brackets.I used Velcro wrap straps to mount them Just behind the front seats on the roll cage. They stay put while wheeling.
I just hope they will stay put with the top off.

When you guy's mount your Fire Extiquisers remember try to keep at least one in arms lenth of the driver seat.

In a crash or roll over if you can't move from your seat you will still be able to reach the extiquiser if need be.

we sell them but here is the deal, shipping costs are crazy these are considered hazardous material so u might be better off getting them local. the chrome is pretty expensive , i was thinking if u take a plain ole red one and , repaint say your jeep color then add label of contents ABC / BC whatever yours is .

I've been looking at the mounting locations on this thread and I have to agree here. I'm debating where to mount my extinguisher and I think I'm going with the seat mount location. The mounts on the rear roll bar uprights seem to me to present a problem, rollover or not, in that if you have a soft top and it is up it's going to take some time to get at that extinguisher. I'm convinced I'm going with the seat mount.

Question- Any concerns about in a crash that the extinguisher would get punctured being mounted below the front seat?
What about installing behind the center console? - wait - that maybe a problem. I'll check in the morning. :dontknow2:
