How bout a little thread on creating videos of our wheeling trips?

What software do you use?
Tips on adding music?
Camera do's and don'ts
Editing secrets
Best place to post? (Why use you tube rather than anything else)
Compressing for web?
Anything else I missed?
Creating DVD's

Well, there are many options.. and it is all a subject unto itself... something I am interested in myself but never take the time.. I figured I would also give this a bump and provide what I know...

I have used Adobe Premier and when I wasn't at a work PC I used a basic tool like Pinnacle (not great but it works). In both those products its easy to drop music in.

One thing I started doing was spending more time getting small 10-15 second clips rather than just leaving the camera running all the time. Unless you just want to replay long pieces, it's easier to keep it small so editing isn't a huge pain. I find that creating quick, 5-10 second clips with simple transitions over a 3-4 min song makes it nice.

YouTube and others give some good guidelines for encoding (formats, compression, etc) - assuming that is where you are posting. In a perfect world, you could push out the video in your desired format and use a streaming service. But it's hard to beat using YouTube, etc. for most needs.

My camera is a cheap consumer Sony handicam . I did buy a clamp (from a lighting store) that goes up on the roll bar - that I like a lot. I just put it up there and it gets decent shots along the road / trail.

I am also interested in what others use and do. More and more you can do so much with a basic camera and available web resources - at least for most uses.

The mount... (there are also some older threads about camera mounts if you search)...

Pinnacle is cheap and ok!
Adobe Premiere and After Effects is great but pretty pricey!
The best bet honestly would be SOny Vegas, you can do everything you want to, tons of customizing, and only about 100-200 depeneding on the version you get!
I really like Vegas Personally!

I'm confused. I put together a sweet video using Movie Maker...first one. Turned out great and published to DVD. Looks awesome, especially on the big screen. Then I started hitting problems. Posting to Youtube didn't work since it is 11 minutes. I could edit it and shorten but.... Instead I published to google video. They required that I re-format from MSMMW to WMV files. Now, when I view it the quality is Sh1tty! Is there a way to post it anywhere in the original format that will handle the 11 minute length and maintain the quality? Did I do something wrong in the transfer to WMV to make it so bad? It's hardly viewable...jaggies, skips etc.
