I use 1st on steep descents and crawling through stuff like this

for stuff like this I use 2nd thru 4th depending how fast we are traveling through an area.

3rd with a 6spd or Auto?
3rd gear seems a bit fast...

Yeah in 4Lo I could see that.
That's one nice looking rock garden you got out there!

On a Rubicon, 1st is crawling only, second is light crawling, 3rd is slow trail ride, 4th trail ride, 5th faster trail ride, 6th use 2wd or 4 hi

I can accept that. A Rubi with 4.10's and a 4:1 tcase and 6spd in 3rd... drive ratio is 28.2:1.
I've never wheeled a JK before so when you're talking about which gear you use on the trail, I have to compare to the gear I used in my truck... sorry, a Ranger. She's gone now, though. She had to go to make room for the JK that I could use to haul all 5 of my family in style.
Anyway, my truck in 2nd gear with 4.56's and 2.48:1 tcase... drive ratio was 24.9:1. That's fairly close and I can assume it'd be pretty similar speed.
A JK with 3.21's, 2.72:1 tcase, and 3rd gear (6spd)... drive ratio would be.... 15:1. That's ALOT different than 25:1 or 28:1. I think I'd be using 1st and 2nd alot more if I had 3.21's.

Hey sorry to be off topic, but how did you like going from the stock springs to the rubi 4 dr springs? I am swapping out a set this weekend, same thing, X with 3.21's. I use first a lot for going up and down sharp hills, tricky passes, but if it is open country, yep 2nd or third is the way to go. Personally I like places that take 4lo and 1st to get through, those are the most fun, and I love all the available torque with all that gearing!
