I have had many point & shoots, and I even use them today...

Id like to get a intro level SLR that is fairly cheap, but takes good photos. I have read a bunch of side by side comparisons and it seems the Nikon D40 is the way to go.

Anyone have any other opinions out there?? I found the Nikon for $449 with 18-55 lens and 4 GB card.

We have a Canon Rebel XT and have had excellent results and no problems with it. We have the 18-55 kit lens and also a Tamron 70-300. If you look around you may be able to find a good used DSLR as people are always upgrading their equipment.
