Most 4 wheelers will use 4 to start out with and move to 8, 12, 16 etc, if the channel they start out on is too busy. There is no written rule, this just developed out of common usage. As long as everyone in your group agrees, you can use about any channel you want except 9 and 19.

9 is Emergency use only

How right you are. People still ilegally use channel nine though, because it's usually the quietest channel. I just use the squelch knob.

All of the 4x4 parks I've been to use 4 ( Katemcey,Monkey creek, Amarillo). My club also uses 4. The local passing trucker traffic seems to always be on 6. I listen to 19 when I'm on the highway and try to raise truckers or just about anyone on it but still haven't got a reply as of yet. I also use 19 to announce the location of speed traps to other drivers as I find them.:dontknow2:

19 is the local interstate channel... and in my parts 16 is the loggers channel which is cool for safety reasons because of some of the places trekked alone :brows:

...In a private group of individuals---> channel 21 works for me http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q60/lizzdizze/sly.gif
