We in the NoVA area have some decent trails to get to and do minor mudding especially after good rains. When purchased, my engine was pristine, never taken off road. Now it is a mess. What parts should be kept dirt free? Don't really care about appearance, just function. Checked the oil thru the dipstick and all looks clear.
Looking to buy a CAI to help with the acceleration on pavement and leaning toward the Airaid. Any special considerations needed for off roading? Haven't taken it in deeeep water yet but am also entertaining the idea of a compatible snorkel.
Tks

I've heard guys on here say that they hose the engine compartment out being careful not to get any h20 in the intake. Just make sure the Jeep's off.

Yeah, what he said. I just hose the hell outta mine. Keep it off the intake and don't drown the alternator and you'll be fine.

Good choice on the intake...I'm running the Airaid myself and am quite happy with it. After mudding (and actually, during), make sure the radiator is relatively clean and clear so that the engine is breathing and cooling adequately. Combining a mounted winch (which reduces airflow by partially blocking the radiator) with clogging mug can quickly lead to overheating. If you're doing some healthy bogging...make sure you check this regularly.

hose er' down or you'll end up with something fubared. Ex. My alternator crapped out on me, even after hosing it out and getting some cleaning fluid in there.
Only good thing, I had it so clean the dealer warrantied it. :brows:

dont do a CAI if you plan to mud or do any kind of water crossing they dont do much for keeping water out. I would spray the motor down with water out of the hose and then spray some degreaser to clean it up nice to chack for any leaks then spray some tire shine all over the engine even wd 40 it will help keep mud off from the next trip
