Just wondering if anyone else had their Sirius radio working without a subscription. I'm trying to figure out if someone screwed up in my favor or if this is a free promo thing that will stop working in a month or so.

I think the first year is included in the price of the radio.

Right. It is supposed to come with a one-year subscription. Some people have an issue with it not lasting near that long....They got resolved at the dealer I believe. If ithappens to you, do a search and you should find a couple of treads on the issue.....

All Sirius radios have a "sat module" in them.
Mainly the receiver. This little box has a "timer" in it. From when it first receivers "outdoor signals" (mainly when you apply power the first time) it has 1 year.
So you get 1 year from when that radio first got power. Some people this is pretty close to the 1 year "free" they get. Others their jeep may have been on the lot, test driven and sat "activated" etc. So they only get 3-8 months. Those people then call Sirius, and say "i didn't get my year" so typically Sirius just gets the SN, pushes a 1 year activation to that modules SN/address and you have 1 year from then for free.
Or you can sign up for a year. :D
But all of the new vehicles with Sirius radios are supposed to come with "1 year free" subscription.

Here's a follow up since I started this thread almost two years ago.
When my free 1 year was up, Sirius automatically renewed the subscription and started billing me. My feeling was that since I didn't ask for the free year I don't owe any cash. I even had phone conversations telling them I didn't want the service. They turned the account in to collections. I raised hell with them and they notified the collections agency so it didn't affect my credit.
Sirius said that normally you don't have to notify them that you want to renew after the one year. They will send you a letter asking you to renew. If they don't hear from you, they just cancel the account. They didn't know why my account was kept active.
