Figured it was kind of a long shot but, does anyone wrap their own rods?
I just finished this one...

Spiral wrapped (acid wrap)
It is where the guides wrap around the rod on a conventional so the line exits the tip on the bottom, allow the rod to absorbed the "twist" when fighting big fish on a convench

easier to see the transition in this one, basically down with 3 guides...

yeah, I have built several rods....time consuming, but it's worth it when you finish! I can't view the pics at work, but I will check them out tonight.

nothing special on the wraps, just some diamond wrap and chevrons..
I love the feeling of crossing a big stripers eyes and landing them on a rod I built, using a plug I built http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripertalk/images/smilies/hump.gif

NOw I finally got to check out the pics. The wraps turned out pretty good. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the fancy spiral wraps, but many people love them. I like to keep mine very simple and classic looking. I've done some spiral wraps before and I can appreciate what you have done. It sure the heck isn't a 5 minute task. Good job though!
BTW,
Did you make all those plugs in the background? They look very nice. I have made my own lures as well, but I've since got out of bass fishing and only fly fish. I like tying flies much better. You do nice lures though..keep up the good work!

The "Spiral Wrap" I was referring to was regarding the guides and where they are placed on the blank itself..
The Butt wraps I do are very simple, not more than a few hours..I do sell some of my rods and "some" people don't want to drop $500 on a plain blank, they need some "bling" :brows:

Does wrapping the rod add ridgeity? I have a trout rod that is real sensitive but it does'nt have any back bone to it could I tak it to get wrapped at the lower portion to improve this?

It will add some stiffness, not a ton...as far as improving its lifting power, I doubt it would make that much of a difference. When in doubt, buy more rods :D

I tie flies occasionally and don't think it is hard at all but is quite delicate requiring a magnifier at times. I like to match whatever the hatch of the day is. I is very satisfying to catch a trout on my own fly.
Anglah, those rods are fantastic! Beautiful workmanship! My DH has wrapped a few rods but usually for repairs or replacing eyes. He hasn't done the kind of wraps you do. When I showed him your pics he was very impressed. Thank you so much for the pics. I think I would like doing that myself someday.

Wow that was some great work done. That takes some serious patience.
My Dad has been making his own rod as long as I can remember but never to that detail. His are incredibly well done but are more for function than look. I will show him these photos next week when he is out visiting.
I have made a few myself but I am nowhere near that creative with them.

My dad and I tied bass rods when I was growing up. I have several Browning Siloflex, (sp?), hand tied rods. 35+ years old and I still use them today. I don't even own a graphite fishing rod.
I still use Garcia Ambassador 5000's, 5000C's and 2500's. For ultralight I use Mitchell 308/408's. And, I do catch fish. I have over 100 crappie falys in the freezer. Can you say winter fish fry?

Wow - I saw the title of this thread, and fishing rod isn't the first thing that came to mind... this was: here (http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/uncensored.shtml) (NSFW).

The rods look great. What reels do you use to catch your stripers?
