Well REI is having 20% off a sale on all items except the ones on sale .... So I was thinking about buying a tent for the family ( 2 adults 6 yr Old & 2 2 yr olds ) .

I was thinking about the Big House 6 ....

What do you all think about them ?

If I was to buy a base camp/family/car camping tent, that would be the one I would get! Big Agnes makes a great product (especially their tents) and if for some reason you do have a problem :eek2:, they stand behind their product as far as any warranty issues are concerned. :2thumbs: I just got back 1 of my tents today:ya: that I sent in for repair, no questions asked, they just fixed it.

I don't know what you are planning on doing, but the Mountain Hardware Satellite :luvlove: would probably be some serious overkill :rotflmao2:, but hey if you got the extra pennies go for it, and while your not using it let me borrow it.:rotflmao1::brows::rotflmao1::brows:

I would also recommend you check out the Marmot Halo 6P, or you should check out the MSR Board Room :eek2:(WOW now thats a TENT!!).

I like the Big Agnes, I would also look at the REI Hobitat (SP). As much as I love Mtn Hardware, i agree, it might be overkill.

I am actually looking at the BA Emerald SL3. I need it for backpacking as well as carpacking. I have a wife and a 5 year old, and as you might imagine, I am the pack mule. So weight was my biggest concern. But I liked the Hobitat. We actually thought of getting just that. But I prefer the hiking too much, and that is too heavy to carry on my back.

I saw that ...But I would prefer a tent that has a rainfly that goes all the way to the bottom ....:synister: Here in Houston you could get a shower at anytime of the day .

I need something big for now ..We are a family of 5 and a Damn Cockerspanial !:naw::naw:

One of these days Im getting a real dog !

Down the road I might some smaller tents for the kids ...

Columbia claims that the Bugaboo sleeps six (9'x12')---- not realistic.
It was huge for me, the wife, and dog; I'm 6'5" though. I could see a normal-sized family of 4 being comfy in it; 5 and a dog is a bit too far maybe.

I have the BA big house 6 and think it is a great car camping tent.

Great ventilation, size, and not at all hard to pitch. HUGE vestibule.

But it is not a warm tent in cold windy weather. The thing is so big your body heat doesn't warm it. And the ventilation is so good the breeze just sucks out any warmer air which has risen in the tent. Bring a warmer sleeping bag than usual in those circumstances.

We used ours in Clayton OK a few weekends ago and the temps were in the low 30's on the lake. Our 30 degree bags were quite chilly. And they're good bags (NF and MH).

Big Agnes tents are VERY well made. I have one of their "Seedhouse SL" series ultra lightweight solo tents after seeing them continuously get great reviews on the backpacking forums I look into from time to time. If you're gonna blow your 20% off one item coupon on something, you could do a lot worse than one of their products.....I just don't know about their larger products. I've got one of their insulated Air Core mummy cut inflatable mattresses...used it just this last weekend on the MA Midstate Trail....stayed inflated all night and helped keep me warm with temps hitting 18 deg. (Was testing the Marmot 0 deg down bag I used MY 20% coupon for!;-)
Good luck and let us know..........

I have the Hobitat 6 and it is an AWESOME Tent.

Fits Queen size blowup and 2 cots and still has room onthe floor for the dog bed.

We have been using it now for 3 years. 30+ camping trips, various conditions freezing rain to 100+ degrees. It still looks and works as good as new. No rain leaks. Not 1 broken pole (I probably just jinxed myself)

Overall very vesitile and it is great to be able to fully stand up in the tent.

I think it runs about $400 with custom drop cloth.
