am I missing something?

looked at a 2 dr rubi and the front pasenger seat would not fold and tumble like on my TJ, I thought it was because of the side air bags , but this one did not have them, I have not been able to find info on brochure or jeeponline

its a pain getting to the back seat if the top is up

Simple answer: It doesnt. the back of the seat only flips forward and then the whole thing slides ahead.

It does make it a PITA to get into the back. I wish it did fold & tumble.

Thanks,

there must be a reason they diden't do this,

PITA not just for back seat pasg. but for getting to tools, cooler, etc

so funny you should mention this, a saleman from my local dealership was showing me a 2 door and i noticed then that fold & tumble was gone... he proceeded to climb into the back to show me "how easy an adult can still get into the back seats". took him 2 solid minutes and help from another saleman to shove him in! it'll be a hard sell to people w/ kids.

I test drove the 2-door last night and I am now pretty much convinced I need the 4-door... simply because of the rear seat entry... it's just horrible.

its not any worse than the TJ really. it moves forward enough to get in.. its a jeep..

It was so they could use the same seats in the four door as the two door. They wouldn't use the fold and tumble seats in the four door and I'm assuming for cost reasons, they made the decision to not continue it for just the two door.

...it is kinda funny to see the fat-arsed mom-in-law try to get herself squeezed in there though...

I was disappointed about the seat at first, but i decided to just get rid of the ba seat to solve the problem. Plus it gives me more room for the dog and gear.

If you look under the front passenger seat, there are some electronics, and tons of wires. Front Air bag sensors, side air bags, maybe something else. Maybe they didn't want it to get stepped on.

I just wished they would have mounted the seat belt differently!

I just looked at the jeep website and they list a "Easy Access Passenger Tip-and-Slide Seat". does anyone know if the 2dr passenger seat acts differently than the drivers side? just a thought.

What are the chances of another mechainism being offered by the aftermarket for the stock seats?

Yes, it does act differently than the driver's side seat.

On the passenger side, on the right of the seat (if you are seated in it, near the door) are two levers. The lower horizontal lever (the one attached to the base of the seat) adjusts the recline angle of the seat back. there is an upper lever there too that is more verticle (it is on the side of the seat back). When you press the second lever to the rear of the vehicle, it flips the seatback forward, and releases the seat base at the same time, so the back flips forward, and the whole seat slides forward. about 6 inches i think, it aint much, but it lets me get in there. The drivers side seat will move forward and tilt forward too, but you must do both actions seperately with their respective controls. The passenger side one does both with just the one lever.

Whn you are done on the passenger side, push the top of the seat towards the rear of the vehicle, it will go back to the reclined angle it was at previously (i think) and slides backwards at the same time, although it wont slide to where you had it set if you originally had it set all the way to the rear.

It is an attempt to make access easier. it helps, but it still sucks.

Hope this makes sense.

for me i tried to get the pasg. seat as far forward and there was only about 2-3 inches from base/back of seat to the back of door opening

thats not enough to get a normal size shoe through, this just seems wrong! there is a big difference compared to the TJ

it's a saftey hazard if your a Nader type, your friend gets out of the back seat, gets there foot stuck in between seat and door frame and falls flat on her face:eek!:

even cheap econo box 2 door cars give enough room to get your foot through

I will have to try on another jk 2dr just to be sure

Yeah, its way way more dificult than the TJ is. I think its to push people into the 4-Door. Its certainly making me wish I had gotten the 4-door, just from hauling baby. If I could trade up without taking a bath, I probably would. But I know I'll lose my shorts on the depreciation.

I just noticed yesterday that while it's a bigger pain to move the driver's seat, it's easier to get in from there. Apparently they decided to attach the seat belt to the seat on the passenger's side, but to the floor on the driver's side. Brilliant!

Really? I feel dumb, i missed that! now i am going to have to go look after work (rode the m/c to work today)

WTH would they do that?

Apparently, there is room for the passenger seat to go forward a couple of inches yet, so if the aftermarket gnomes could come up with the following two things, it'd help fix this glaring inadequacy to somewhat livable:

1. New longer-travel seat base rails that allow the passenger seat to go as far forward as possible. This will free up a couple of valuable inches in the space behind the passenger seat for entry/exit.

2. Floor anchor for the seat belt.

Any thoughts?

Wonder why they couldn't have made the back seat rear-facing, so a person could get in & out throught the back?

Same reason they don't do it on most (99%) of all airplanes - it makes people barf - really - they get motion sickness.

Probably more to do with safety statistics. I have read in planes it would be safer to travel backwards but that suggests to the passengers that planes do crash. They don't want to do that.

In cars,(or Jeeps) there is a high incident of rear end collisions. I have seen video footage of crash dummies flying out the rear window of those backward seats in station wagons and striking the windshield of the car behind them.(They probly weren't restrained with seat belts)

The way the front seats tilt and slide forward gives you a little less room than the TJ

However my big gripe is with the seatbelt, it ends up crossing the access to the back and I've found no handy way to get it out of the way.

This is a real pain not only for passengers but gets in the way for putting things in the back seat.
