Hey guys.
A buddy gave me a 1974 Starcraft tent trailer. Here's the pic

Anyways, the body is very neat and everything inside works. Problem is the roof needs replacement (which I can do) and the canvas is totally shot (a little harder). All of the canvas trim/mounting hardware is still attached.
Has anyone replaced canvas on one of these? Is it worth it?
Thanks

I've seen pretty nice ones for $1500-$3000 ----- are you getting it for a steal?
I'd show a picture to a canvas shop and get an estimate.
Unless you like to do this sort of thing...

Yeah, my buddy gave it away for nothing. Cost about $100.00 for the registration, new tags and insurance for the year.
It looks like I can get a new canvas for approx $900-$1000.00 (CDN). The roof won't be super expensive to do, it's mostly plywood.
Other than that I don't mind tinkering around with the rest in my spare time, so it's about $1500.00 worth of work.

I'd say that you should hop on it and do a custom build; you'll have a pretty blank canvas to make it the way you like.
A few of the folks on the ExPo have restored/built similar trailers and made them very offroad capable.
Take a look around in here for some ideas:

That was my thinking but hilldweller beat me to it. I would look at making it very off-road capable and if possible customize it the way you want it!!!

Thanks guys, yeah it looks like a go. Unfortunately I have to find a way to do it outside, as I don't have a garage... will keep you guys posted.

With winter coming fast, I'd spend that time planning, drawing up ideas and gathering material, so once it thaws some you can get working on it right away so it's ready for next season.

Yeah, I'm already working on some plans and have a shopping list of materials.
Nice thing is, it never goes below zero here but if I do it over the winter I have to plan and get a few rare days of sunshine.
In the meantime it's tarped with a few boards between the roof and the tarp to keep the rain and mildew away.
More to come....
