I am thinking of buying my fathers Grand cherokee. I want it as a daily driver. My father put on it nearly 400000km with no engine problems:eek2:. hehe. but i would like to put the 4.7 or is it the 5.7 hemi that came out also on that model. my question is will i have to replace the transmission too? or they have the same transmissions?

It would be well advised to buy a 4.7 grand. the cost of making the swap is more than the vehicle will ever be worth.

But if i get a used 4.7 it will be cheap? will i have to change the tranny? and will it be bolt on?

Most likely, you will also need a new computer, wiring harness, radiator, the list goes on.

Its just easier to buy one with a 4.7 in it since they are everywhere and cheap already built.

I have a 2000 cherokee that my gf uses as a daily driver and I love the fact that it has the 4.0 she gets over 500 kms to a tank of gas and it is a mountain goat on icey and slippery roads Thank you quadratrac II

the 4.0 Tranny isn't as strong as the 45RFE they use with the 4.7L. And I dont think would be worth it to do a engine swap. However if you are lucky enough to find a donor 4.7 Grand Cherokee with complete engine, tranny, ECU and etc..then why not?

I will be selling my 4.7 WJ soon  Want to ship it??? :brows:
