Back in August I, for the first time, I flew over to Las Vegas with a bunch of friends for a couple of days. Did the usual, you know, the strip, Hoover Dam, etc.
But it was my first time out west. In fact, i've never been more west than Florida LOL. Anyway, I was in awe on the way to the Grand Canyon, mainly because of the landscape. Never seen anything like it(in person) in my life. Such vastness everywhere. So it got me thinking.
It would be really cool to drive out to the entrance to Area 51 and visit all the "Alien" oriented stuff on the way. And when I say "entrance", I obviously mean the infamous "no trespassing" signs that you see on the internet along the hill with the "Camo dudes" atop.
Only problem was that I had a Monte Carlo Rental and there was no way I was going to drive out into the desert for a couple hours in 112Deg heat in it. Nor me or my friends had the balls to do it. Plus, I heard there is no cell phone coverage out there(makes sense) and it's good to bring extra fuel just in case.
Anyway, maybe next time I'm in Vegas i'll try it, but I'll have my Jeep to do it.
Any of you out there(from this world) go there with your Jeeps? I did a search but came up empty. Post pics if you got 'em!!!:clap::clap:

Good luck with that! I would like to cruise around the area and camp. You know, to see what flies around at night. I have been camping a bit south of there on the south side of the Chocolate Mountains, north of the Salton Sea, and have seen some pretty cool stuff flying around at night. The Yuma test range is near there and makes for good sky watching.

I'd been wanting to go there also and spend a week driving around and looking at all the stuff that we are allowed to. But I know my Wife wouldn't want to go so for now it is only a "want".

It was on tv a bit back,, about 6 months ago maybe they did a report on area 51.. now abandon by the military,, due to too much security issues,, ufo seakers.. They moved the research lab up north somewhere.. Said all the odd sightings were actually test flights of the stealth fighter/bomber program and a couple other programs that "didnt pan out" and some they are still working on..
According to the show no more hidden cameras and mp's..

and haven't heard anything about that. Haha maybe it's a government plot to deter tourists and stuff. Who knows... The truth is out there <---[insert Xfiles theme here]

I dont know if it is operating or not, but if you are in the area and see white passenger jets with a red stripe and no other markings, the base is still working. Those are the jets they fly employees in on daily from LV.

Highly recommend a Google Earth "flyover". Some interesting structures and very long runways.

That is pretty cool! I wonder how old that image is?
How often do they update the sat. image?

closest I have been is google maps. Those runways that are the color of the desert are mega long!!! I found another place in the desert with what looks like a big silo or bumker or something. Maybe I will post a photo so I can find out what it is?
I would love to visit there.
