View Full Version : pop up camping during Winter in the Rockies
My friends and I obviously don't have a lot of sense because we're wanting to go to the Rockies in January and stay in a pop up :eek2:.
Anyone have location suggestions for some mountain scenery??

Yes, the Grand Tetons! via Jackson Hole, Wyoming, really anywhere from Canada all the way down to the southwestern states. Are you sure you are up to it?

I'd love to go back to Jackson Hole as it has been thirty years since I was there. We are thinking about somewhere like Eagle Nest NM at the southern end of the Rockies. We don't want to be buried overnight in six feet of snow!:rotflmao1:

forget the pop-up tent build one of these on your winter camping trip into the Rockies. Snow Quinzee.....great shelters, very easy to build and with a candle burning will keep the shelter comfortable for a good sleep.

You might want to post in the southwest section of the forum there are guys from NM and AZ that should have good idea's for you. You almost might have to have options 1,2,3 and then check snow levels before you leave.
The southern end of Utah, Zion national park might be a place to consider, it is in a valley surrounded by mountains and not too far away is Bryce Nationa Park.
There are lots of spots around all those places, the national forests with all their trails but if you only have one vehicle be sure to notify the rangers when you leave and when to expect you back, then check in on your way back cause they WILL come looking for you.
To tell you the truth you just might want to consider the desert areas, lots of trails, beautiful scenery of a different sort, and cool enough to enjoy, sometimes too cool
