Jebus that a big moose.

I would love to see how they mounted that rack on the bush plane for the return trip. It doesn't look like a Piper Cub as I would expect for that terrain but even then, how many trips do you think it took to haul the meat back?

Anybody want to guess how long it took them to debone all that meat?

Nice bull indeed, but that poor bastard.......there ain't nothin, and I mean NOTHIN' worse than trying to take care of a moose in the water. In fact, a couple years ago I let a real nice 60" bull go beacause I didn't want to shoot him in the swamp. Waaaaaaaay too much work. I've been lucky so far and even tho many of my bulls were near water, they've all died on land....Thank God...!!
Anyway....Well Grizz, if you'd be willin' to give your left one for that, then no doubt you let go of both of them AND your wanger for this one. If I recall, this is the potential new world record. I don't remember all the info on this bull, but I'll try to track it down for you. I do know it was killed in AK. almost 2 years ago. The B&C club doesn't list the new WR until the BIG convention, I think every four years.
Enjoy.....

Wow I remember seeing this photo go around.....Just simply amazing the size of this moose!!! How in the H.E. double hockey sticks would you mount this on your wall without having issues with your structural posts and beams in your home???:rotflmao2::rotflmao1::bleh:

Gentlemen,

Referenced below is the new potential World Record Moose!

Show this to your spouses and they might quit asking for a year why we
spend so much money pursuing "Big Daddayyy"!

Here are the particulars:
The moose in the photos is an Alaska-Yukon moose taken by Eric Arnette
on
September 5th,2004. It was taken in the Kilbuck Mountains, which is 380
miles west of Anchorage, AK. The rack is approximately 75 inches wide,
has about 36 countable points, and was unofficially scored by a person
who is not an Official Measurer at around 264 points.
In the near future it'll be posted on the Boone and Crockett Club's
web
site On "Trophy Watch" where the official score will be announced once
it is entered.

My old 1981 Boone and Crockett Book has the record at 255 with a spread of 77” and 18 points on the left and 16 points on the right, killed by Kenneth Best in 1978 in McGrath Alaska.
That new record my friend is a trophy worth a bloody fortune.

Indeed. As you know points are great, and the more the better, but mass is where you really start to beef up a score. And as you can see this cull is quite massive. I saw one of the world records in Anchorage years ago. It was a crazy rack because of the mass it had and how tall the palms were, yet only being in the high 50s for a spread.

While guiding, I called this bull in close.....almost too close...22 feet close:eek2:

I'll never forget this hunter....

We had to shuttle the super cub into this little pothole a number of times to get all the gear in. During that time we never saw the bull that was supposed to be close by. The next morning at daybreak I walked my hunter over to the general area that I was told the bull was hanging out. By looking at the landscape I had an idea of where he would be, but not wanting to spook him, I got to within about 400 yards, had a few openings to see, and said to my hunter "This will do".
I dropped my pack and started calling. Almost immediately I got a response. When I heard the bull I looked over to this guy and nod my head.....not hearing what I heard, he jumps up, steps in front of me, starts pointing his rifle in that direction and says "Where, where...???" I grab him, pull him back and say, "Whoa....easy there guy, relax...that bull is hundreds of yards away and in stuff so thick you can't see anything." So the guy sits back down on a little hummock. I wait a few more minutes and call. Again the bull grunts and rakes his horns in the brush. I smile and this time the guys hears it......He jumps up again and does the same thing......pointing his gun...."Where, where???" I calm him down, and again say he's still too far away and I haven't seen anything yet. "Oh, oh" he says and sit's back down. For a few more minutes I play with this bull and am just loving getting him all riled up. There is nothing like listing to a big bull moose come in to the call...!!! Finally I see a flash of horn and point. By now this guy is getting so excited he's about to jump out of his skin. I see the bull is going to flank us, like they always do to try and catch the wind. I don't see him but hear him coming fast. I move my hunter around and position him a few feet to my left and say, "Be ready". All of a sudden, this bull comes up over the little hill in front of us, stops, and is looking out over the top of us. I swear he looks like a damn mountain standing there...!!!:eek2: We are at the base of the hill he is on 22 feet away, because he's looking over the top of us he doesn't see us down below him. My hunter slowly pulls up his rifle and aims.............and aims.................and aims.................AND AIMS!!!! It's taking forever as this monster is just standing there posing right on top of us!!! Still he hasn't shot, and I feel a slight little breeze blowing on the back of my neck right towards the bull. I know at any moment this bull is either going to bolt the other direction and be gone, or jump down in this little hole and beat the livin' shit outta both of us...!!! So here this guy is still aiming:crazyeyes:and I did something I've never had to do before. In my softest, quietest voice I own, I actually whisper........."ssssshhhoooot............sssshooot.............sho ot now!!!" Finally.......BOOM!!! and the bull drops on the spot. I look over at him and say, "WHAT the hell was going on, what took you so damn long to shoot???!!! He says with a quivering voice...."Ah....er....I...ah.......I had my scope turned up on 12 power.....all I could see was hair so I was trying to find where his head was." During the time I was calling in the bull which was probalby about 15 minutes, he was so excited he totally forgot about actually getting ready for the shot.
Anyway.......this is me with my S&W 44mag. I figured I'd get in the pic with it as, when the hunter finally did shoot the bull he spined the poor guy in the neck and didn't kill him. I had to go up to him and put one in back of his ear with the 44.
All-n-all an absolutely beautiful bull...about a half inch shy of 70"!!! And as we are standing there looking at him, this guy tops it all off by saying to me, in this whiney little voice,......."I wish he had 3 brow tines on both side.":eek2: I tell ya guys, it was all I could do to keep from walking off and letting him deal with the beast all by himself!!!
I had a few more episodes with this guy during the hunt, as it was a moose/caribou combo, including him not wanting to help me pack moose meat and going off and getting lost. AND him being unsafe with his gun to the point I had to have words with him.........but we won't get into that.:rotflmao2: http://my.project-jk.com/data/500/Big_Bull.jpg

That's cool that you too have moose around the house. We get them all the time. Over the years I've had a few young bulls, and lots of cows with newborn calves. Sometimes they'll hang out for weeks in the area.

Thought this ended up being a pretty interesting pic. Wish the flash reflection wouldn't of been so bad.
