I like the idea of the offroad tent trailers but they seem expensive. I have started looking for an m100 or m101 to make my own. But they seem to be rare to find now! I have a utility trailer from home depot that could be modded. But I think most of it would end up being replaced. I think using stock JK rims is the best idea seeing I have 10 rims and tires. Any ideas or links to the m101 or m100 in Canada. I have been searching all day!!

I have been looking for one as well, and the closest one I found was about to rust out completely I don't even think I could tow it home without having it break apart.

Maybe I should build my own expedition trailer the way I wanted. And have fun building it. I regret selling my Chaser trailer few years ago...

I am almost thinking building one is the best way to go. Even for a basic trailer its 3000USD, plus taxes, shipping, ad the exchange. My utility trailer isnt strong enough and its way too long. I think I will just keep that as is. We do have an amazing welder in town with an old CJ. I might approach him with some plans. I was looking at the princess auto flyer online last night. Getting axles, hubs, leaf springs and fenders looks pretty cheap! I think I am on to something!

I can get them quite easily here in Manitoba for $600-$800. So if you are driving east keep it in mind. PM me and I'll tel you where

I'll actually be coming through Golden next week (Calgary-Banff-Revelstoke-Vernon ski-trip), if you would have posted before I bought my plane ticket, I could have bought one and delivered it right to your door!!

but then again, by the time I got it road worthy, bearings, tires, 12v lights and a ball hitch plus insuring it to get it there I would have charged you $2000 too.

Ha Ha thanks anyway! If you could PM me the location that would be appreciated. I guess they are not in road worthy condition eh? This one I was looking at was almost perfect. Except for the price. Just seemed a bit steep. I offered him way less and he hasnt returned my call.

Have a fun trip, its snowing again finally! Kicking Horse was pretty bad for the last few weeks.

In Canada the M101 is the 1/4 ton trailer, In the US it's the M416. 1/4 ton off road, 1/2 ton on pavement. Check out MVPA (military vehicle preservation association) then link around. Prices are usually $500 to $1000 depending on condition. $500 should buy a pretty sweet trailer, dings and scratches. The biggest problem with both these trailers is they were designed to float, they have no tailgate, so they fill with water and snow, so the bottoms rust out. In photos you'll see them stored on top of each other tub to tub, or on end.

The US M101 is a 3/4 ton trailer, some of the later models have a split frame that allows the bed to dump the cargo without removing the trailer from the vehicle.

Thanks for the links guys. i think I am just gonna use my normal utility trailer and get a big tent for $500. Jumping Jack Trailers looks cool but they want 5g for one. I just cant justify it. Later on I might lift the trailer put JK wheels on it and call er done. Either that or get s ranger truck box and make that work.

Problem solved. Just broke off a 3 year relationship. She is taking one dog with her. So its just me and the other dog. I can fit all the camping stuff and the dog in a 2 door Jeep no problem. Some things work them selves out.

Whenever I drive thru Salt Lake City there is a lot with a ton of old military trailers. I've never stopped to check them out but you can see them from the freeway.

Sorry I don't know the name of the place.

Thats the crazy thing, she loved the jeep. She thought the bumpers and lift were really cool. Oh well, dont need a trailer. And i am keeping both dogs. Pretty sure I can get all my camping crap in the Jeep with two dogs.

A rack on the back should be all you need then.

in Utah- Smith & Edwards north of Salt Lake they have several... I live maybe a mile from them... I just picked one up... in pretty good shape.

Just got my M101A1 Trailer. Found it on Craigslist. Pretty fair price. I'll be into it for about $1000 after all is said and done with registration, hitch, re-wiring and other minor repairs planned. Going to use for hauling stuff since I no longer have pick-up truck. We're going to take her camping too...can't wait!

Towed it for about an hour on the highway, and have to admit it is smooth as silk. A little big in the rear-view, but I can almost forget it is there otherwise.

Looks good so far.

I am back to wanting a trailer of some sort my self. I am thinking along the lines of a small truck cut in half and made into a trailer. Then get a canopy, build a boat rack on top. Build a bed and storage inside. Boom instant offroad trailer on the cheap. I like the idea of a truck box and canopy... I will be camping in Grizzly bear country. I know bear attacks are rare, but I will sleep better.

A small pickup bed like an S10 or ford ranger would work pretty good. If I was going to be somewhere there was going to be bears I would want something solid.

Yeah thats exactly what I am thinking. A rood top tent from ARB is $1600CDN. Then I still have to build a trailer. After all that its still a tent.

Here are some general specs:

M101 Trailer, Cargo, 3/4 ton.
The M-101 Trailer, Cargo, 3/4 ton is a single axle, two wheel, steel frame cargo trailer designed to be towed by a 3/4 ton or larger truck. A welded steel box body is bolted to the frame. The body is equipped with a tailgate and mounting brackets for cargo racks and a frame for a tarpaulin cover. A steel A-frame is bolted to the frame with an attached one-position lunette, landing gear, and two hand brake levers. The M101 is designed to operate on all types of roads, cross-country terrain, and in all weather conditions. There are no restrictions on the M101 for movement over primary and secondary roads, however, it is restricted to a maximum speed of 15 mph when towed cross-country.

The M101 Trailer, Cargo, 3/4 ton, was manufactured in the 1950s and 1960s as the trailer for the M37 3/4 ton cargo truck. Multiple manufacturers produced the trailer under a series of contracts. The M101 remained in use for decades as a general cargo trailer towed by any of the commonly used military vehicles rated for 3/4 tons or more.

The M101A2 wheel lug pattern matched the M880 truck and had tubeless tires. The M101A3 one ton trailer was towed by the HMMWV when the HMMWV was introduced in the mid-1980s. To improve performance and simplify logistics, the M101A3 trailer included modifications such as a longer axle and increased ground clearance, and was fitted with HMMWV wheels and runflat tires.

keep in mind the American M-101 and the Canadian 101 are vastly different, the Canadian 101 is comparable to the American M-416

I thought about that but one of the reasons I bought the Jeep was for the open top. I hate to even think of having a roof rack and something above me. Love the open air feeling.
