I ordered 2x 2 gallon fuel tanks, 1x 2 gallon water tank, and 1x storage tank from roto-pax.
I had this idea from the time I saw them, really love the products. Kinda pricy, but well worth the effort.
So I customized my Rugged Ridge tire carrier by welding on some additional brackets in order to hold the tanks the way I want them. The nice thing about this setup is they come off with the twist of a handle. And the tanks do not stick out past the tire itself in any direction so they are always protected.
Now when I am on the trail, I will always have some water and fuel

Where did you get those containers and related equipment? I'd like to put those on my expedition trailer I'm building....

If you Google "roto-pax" you will find them.
Being a 2 door I do not hold as much fuel at the 4 doors. Been a couple trips to Fordyce and Rubicon after 2 days of wheeling that I hoped I could make it to the gas station. This just simply guarentees that I will ever time.

I thought didn't realize 4-drs held more fuel, know how much? My wife wants a 4-dr Rubi.
Any chance you could email me these pics? I can't view them, site is blocked, but email would work.

Haha, those tanks look like Lego blocks or something.
Cool idea though.

Looks good but I would seriously consider a cross bar. I can see those bottom welds getting stressed from the weight of the liquids and eventually snapping them off.

According to my 2007 info, 2-doors have 18.6gal tank, Unlimiteds have 21.6gal tank. I have also seen more recent info that the Unlimited has a 22.5gal tank. No verification on that though.

I do not drive around with anything in them. I only use them when I am headed to the trails or on a road trip.
I am planning additional horizontal bracing, but I am also in process of doing the trail rack and may integrate them together. So, I am holding off until that design is also completed.

That is a really awesome idea, 2 doors need all the help they can get on storage options. :yup:

Awesome design, I like the looks of this tire carrier, fuel carrier combo.
X2 on bracing, before you take a trip offroad.

I had not put the locks on when I took those pics. I drilled the handles and put cable locks through them locking them together.
