I have been using this camera for close to a year now. When I shoot nature and landscape it's on a tripod in manual focus for every shot. If you understand how to use the camera in this specific situation the end results are amazingly good. I can do clear sharp colorful prints up to 34x40 or 50 with virtually no manipulation of the image other than a little color correction and minimal sharpening. I would say the end results are entry level medium format digital quality.

But thats about all this camera is good for. (Not a great statement for an $8000 dollar camera.) I have attempted to use this camera to shoot weddings and sports events only the to have 2/3rds of the photos come out blurred as a result of the auto focus issues that this camera and the 1D MK III share. In spite of canons assurances they have resolved those issues.

If I had it to do over I would go with the 5D MK II and prey they didn't use the same autofocus system. I'm not trying to brow beat Canon I like their stuff, I have used the 20D and 5D with no problems at all.

Is the auto focus with the camera or with the lenses?

Were you shooting against white backgrounds? Have you sent in your unit for repair?

I've got two 1D3's (non S) and a 5D2, and shoot weddings as well as sporting events and have never had a problem with the 3 focusing at a wedding. I did however experience issues with one of my 3's, but that was with ai servo + high through a series multiple actuations during a scene (think running towards home and sliding for a visual). Both were non-blue dot 3's and were sent back to Canon and repaired. No problems, and I've logged at least 300k between the two since.

The AF system in the 1D series is MUCH better than the archaic 5D 9 point system. The images from the 5D2 are noticeably better than the 1D3 due to the pixel density.

You should really contact Canon. If I owned a $8k camera which did what yours is doing, I'd get it fixed.

Yea I know, I exchanged the first 1Ds MK III I had for this one. Same issue, according to Canon the 1Ds MK III does not share the same focusing problems as the 1D MK III.

Come winter I will probably send this unit in for a full check up. For the moment shooting landscapes and nature the way the way I do ( manual focus ) I get amazing results when it comes time to print.
