The 2WD jeeps are not trail rated.
Yes, the badge meant it meets certain specs and capabilities. It is on their website.
Jeep has standardized off-road tests. Their trims that get that designation have to pass those tests.

I believe the vehicle must have 4-lo to be "Trail Rated"

And the Hummer brand has something similar, the Hummer must fit at least 12 bags from baby gap in the back in order to receive their "mall rated" badge.

I believe that was 14 bags..(just to be fair to Hummer people)

As far as I can tell, it is just for marketing. Any Jeep with a Hi-Lo xfer case has the badge. My brother has a full lux Grand loaded with everything (pretty chrome wheels, street tires, etc) and it has that badge - no freaking way he could follow me.

However, the '08/'09 model KX,WK, and KK models with the 18" wheel option do not have the TR badge.

see above.
However, my '04 WJ had the TR badge and it had open diffs, no skids or tow hooks, and POS Wrangler ST street tires on it. I fixed all of that minus the open diffs but still... It did wheel pretty decently for what it was though, it just had a horrible rear departure angle. I used to always drag on the gas tank skid and the hitch liked to hang up on obstacles.

From what I heard, other than the JK, the last Jeep to be tested on the Rubicon trail was the KJ ('02-'07 Libby) but they did a lot of rock stacking and it came out with several thousand dollars worth of body damage. It made it though, no way a stock Patriot, Grand, Commander, or new Liberty would...

those vehicles don't have the rubicon model either which is the only jeep model supposedly fully capable of taking on the rubicon trail stock.....as far as the capability of those other vehicles mentioned which also come with a trail rated badge you might be surprised at their capability, just do a quick scan of some youtube videos to prove this point.....they are quite capable of tackling the offroad, they are just going to suffer in some of the finer points that the wrangler has to offer for true offroad superiority.......

I'm very familiar with them, I don't need to google anything. Thanks for the info though. :)
I'm surprised I haven't been bashed for saying the KJ is a decent wheeler. :rotflmao1:

I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to remember seeing pics of a beat up Commander from a Rubicon Trail torture test by Jeep engineers as well. I do also remember for sure that the KJ did it like you said.

No, they don't claim to be able to do the Rubicon anymore. Most models can't. :sad2:

The Jeep Patriot can be trail rated in option......... Sorry, this is not serious and the "Trail Rated" badge is just marketing. : 2cents :

One day my little Rubi didn't perform as well as I expected on a particularly challenging portion of a trail.
As a result of it's performance that day, it was demoted it - It is no longer "trail rated".
On a more positive note, my hot water heater at my house is now "trail rated".
